Bad skin...

WickyWack, 13 November, 2014 at 15:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I used to suffer fairly bad acne around my mouth..Dr put me on Dianette which really helped. Since coming off (June last year, apparently you can't be on it for a prolonged period) I've had hormonal muzzle area acne and its really starting to get me down. I seem to get a bit puss filled white head (sorry, TMI!! ) 2/3 times a day which looks so horrible... Is there anything I can do/try? Most topicals are too harsh for my skin and I usually react as my skin is quite sensitive and its definately not bad enough for Roaccutane...plus I want to start TTC in the New Year...

I was on Dianette for the same reason and I got transferred over to Cileste (think that's how you spell it) and although dianette was had better results cileste also helped keep my skin clear. i've now gone on the mini-pill & my skin has gone to pot honestly you'd think i'd been dunking my face into a chip pan.

Having googled I've read that Yasmin can be good for skin or another one called Alesse

I haven't any advice just wanted to comment so you know you aren't alone. I have actually been on Roaccutane for my acne as it got so bad and came off it after 6 months in March and my acne has returned recently. I really have lost all hope and given up now ☹️

No help either but I'm the same. Skin went to pot after being taken off Dianette. Then put on Cilest which just about keeps the skin bearable (although massive boil like spot has just appeared on chin). When I turn 32 in a few months going to come off pill & am dreading what it may do to my face. Thought spots were for teenagers - not fair!!

I use Duac it's a prescription cream. It can be quite drying (suppose that's the idea) but it does really work. I only put it on at night after properly cleansing my skin. I also ensure that I only use oil free foundation. The instructions tell you to put it all over not just on actual spots but I tend to stick to the areas that I most frequently get spots - chin, bottom of nose etc. I don't put it on my cheeks as I don't get spots there. I really recommend it. It doesn't work for everyone but what have you got to lose?

I have adult acne too and can't use the pill because of drug interactions so the doctor put me on antibiotics instead. Erythromycin worked for a while but as soon as I stopped it came back. I have been on lymecycline for about 2 months now and it's looking pretty good!

I still get the occasional nasty spot, but nothing like I used to.

W gets flare ups too, she covers the affected areas in sudocrem at night when it's bad (she looks like Santa!) It seems to work really well, takes a day or two but her skin always clears right up.

I don't have acne but since coming off the pill in May I've been getting loads of spots around my chin and particularly my jaw line. While I was on the pill (cilest) I had lovely clear skin . I've been using Boots tea tree face wash and gel and they've been a massive help. I'm still getting spots but nowhere near as many.

Offering my sympathies! I've always been a spotty mare which got worse after I came of the pill 4-5 years ago, mainly on the chin/jaw area (tho forehead, cheeks, neck, nose, chest, back, anythings fair game really!) which apparently is where hormonal acne really gets you! The worst bit for me is the little scars I've now got on my chin from it, all throughout my teenage years I never got scars but I now have some on my cheeks and chin and it looks gross and it's depressing Smiley sad when it all got bad after I stopped the pill I tried all the antibiotics and creams the GP could prescribe, it semi-helped temporarily but I guess I got resistant to the antibiotics or something and eventually it was as bad as ever. I stopped all the prescription meds a good two years ago, again with wanting to TTC you can't use a lot of the prescription creams and tablets anyway. I am a bugger for touching my face and picking at spots which is the devil so I'm working on that! I now just use the Liz Earle hot polish cleanser which I loves, I use a mix of tea tree stuff and cliniques blemish control gel on the spots, or sudocreme if my skin feel dried out, and I have some stupid expensive blue light therapy gadget which I've used for about 3.5 months which has definitely helped some areas, my chest has never looked better! But nothing helps the chin area, I've come to the conclusion that there's not actually much you can do for hormonal acne, other than play around with your hormones, eg taking the pill!

The next gadget on my list is a clarisonic face and body brush!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've tried Duac 2.5% previously and that made my skin flare up in a rash so that's a no go unfortunately. Also tried the antibiotic route which do work but soon after stopping, they come back. Might try the sudocreme thing a whirl as that can do no harm! My mum used to swear by witch hazel as a toner which is quite drying on the skin but may help I suppose...

    ruddy hormones!!! ?

Since being on HRT my skin has cleared right up but before when I used to get spots I used to buy soluble asprin and crush them into a paste with a tiny bit of water and apply them to the spot and leave over night or for an hour or so. They have salicylic acid in them (very mild amount) which you find in some spot creams. Best bit is a pack of 20 from Morrisons was about 39p!! Make sure they are the soluble ones though.
