Bag for a bride on the day - Contents

Mrs T, 11 July, 2008 at 14:23 Posted on Planning 0 25

I'm a bridesmaid later on in the year, and me and the other BM have decided to buy the bride a clutch bag and fill it with things she might need on the day. So far i have come up with this list, do you think we need anything else? If you were the bride what would you like in 'The Emergency Bag'?

Mirror

Brush

Tissues

Paracetamol

Mini Deodarant

Mini Perfume

Plasters

Wet Wipes

Mini Hairspray

Extra Hairgrips

Lippy

Eye-shadow

Mascara

Me and the other BM are having dolly bags too so any overspill can go into our bags. Would you try and get a small bottle of water too? I've also been thinking of some Kalms tablets? What do you think?

I'd add rescue remedy and a needle and thread.

If she has beading or sequins on the dress what about something like clear fabric glue? I also heard dressmakers chalk is good for covering up any marks that may appear.

By the sound of it you're going to need a holdall for everything ?

I hope we don't need a holdall for it all! Thankfully my mum will have a large handbag too so we can disperse some stuff onto her! Lol!

Yes her dress does have sequins so fabric glue is on there too, i'll look into the dressmakers chalk ?

    Thanks

What about a wee packet of "party feet" or similar in case she gets sore feet in her bridal shoes?

Safety pins - the tie-up thing for the train broke on my friend's wedding day, and I was frantically running about trying to find safety pins so she could dance! Venue had some fortunately.

Also imodium (but I have IBS, so may be a bit paranoid!). Actually, that's the one thing I'm REALLY scared of on our wedding day, especially if I need help to visit the bathroom (holding dress out of the way). My BM is a very close friend, but not sure if that's too close really!

I'm hoping she won't need them as she has been wearing her bridal shoes at home for a good while now, i'm even thinking about ditching the plasters! i might leave that idea until nearer the date and see how she has got on with her shoes

thanks all i really appreciate it ?

Nutfluff re going to the loo, if you have a big train rather then trying to hold it up and sit on the loo normally, as you walk into the loo facing it sit on the loo like that (so your back is to the door) saves the embarrasement of someone coming into the loo with you adn you don't have to try and hold your dress up, hope i describe that so it's understandable! it worked for me although i didn't have a huge train ?

Thanks for that tip Mrs T! I haven't got a big dress or train, but not tried to go to the loo in it yet. Going in forwards is also good if the loo cubicles are small (which I think they are at my venue) - saves having to turn round!

I'd def tell her you're doing that as she may be buying a special one to match her dress or getting her own bits sorted and may feel obliged to use yours if presented to her on the day.

However I would be doing the opposite and assuring her you will keep emergency stuff in your bags and just leave hers with tissues, mini deod, mini hair brush & lipgloss. If she's having her make-up done professionally it shouldn't need touching up and certainly standby dress solutions will be no use to her as you'll have to effect the repairs anyway!

I hope she wont need all of those things!!

I had a tiny little organza bag which I put gloss, bronzer and sample of my perfume in. That was it. Reapplied in the car on way to reception and reapplied again after dinner.

The venue will have most things and if she's staying over then wont she have an overnight bag with rest of stuff in?

Not wanting to poo poo your idea because it is lovely but I found I had too many things to do with my hands than carry a bag too!

I remember a thread like this a while ago (I think it was Hepburn creating a list ?) and someone said to have a stick of white chalk in case the dress gets a mark on it. Colour in with the chalk and it wont show up in the photos!

Me and the other bm have talked her out of getting her own bag, the other bm lives closer then me and when we went to her fitting we picked a bag and said we would get the advice of the bridal shop as to weather it would match her dress on not.

she is having her make up done professionally so we will probably only need lipgloss and eye-shadow just in case it needs touching up during the day ? as for the dress repairs i have spoken to the lady who did my dress and she advised the only thing we would really need in an emergency is a needle and thread, safety pins and some fabric glue

Hopefully she won't! Me and the other bm have said we will carry the bag so she won't need to worry about carrying it.

? Honestly, don't worry about it! I managed to pee all by myself like a big girl. I did use a disabled cubicle though for ease of manouver - I just flicked my train to the front then hitched up!

Hahaha , oh dear just the thought did make me chuckle , though funnily enough I did wonder how brides managed in their dresses and I have already asked my sis who is also my matron of honour to hold my dress up for me when i need the loo.

Have to get the main priorities sorted lol
