Bags for BMs?

xKellsBellsx, 25 October, 2012 at 10:56 Posted on Planning 0 16

I wrote a few weeks ago that one of my bridesmaids is expecting a hair trial before the wedding, and I hadn't really factored that into costs etc. This BM happens to be OH's sister.

She now wants a bag, which is fine, I understand that, but when I have been BM before, I haven't been bought a bag - we were told we could buy our own in a certain colour if we wanted one, or just use one of our own existing bags. When I said to my BM that I didn't mind if she just used one of her own, she just glared at me as if to say, errr no, you'll buy me one. My MIL2B was there and said "Oh I've seen some nice ones in Coast", and I just thought really?! I've got 4 bridesmaids, I won't be able to afford 4 bags from Coast!

So really just wanted to know what others thought about BMs and their bags? I am of the opinion that they won't have them walking down the aisle / in any formal pictures, so I honestly don't mind what bag they have. I have already bought them a dress, shoes, earrings, a beautiful hair accessory and a BM dressing gown and this is just another cost I hadn't thought of.

And just to be an even bigger pain, she has bought a flesh-coloured strapless bra which shows when she has the dress on and said she was just going to cover the bra with purple material - the dresses are aubergine in colour and I just wish she would buy a different bra. But when I suggested this, I got the glare again! Argh!!!

Yep she's being a bridesmaidzilla. Tell her to buy her own bag. It's not necessary to even have a bag so if you're not telling her she has to have one then she should pay for it herself.

You don't need to buy her a bag.

She also doesn't need a hair trial.

Tell her to buy her own bag, cheeky mare.

And if she wants a hair trial then she can do but she can pay for it.

My BMs asked about whether they would need bags. I told them no. I don't see the point when anything they might possibly need (makeup, phone, purse etc) will be about 30ft away in the bedrooms we are paying for them to stay in.

I've never had one when being a BM, and don't really understand the point of them. Any bits and bobs I needed throughout the day, my OH happily tucked away in his jacket pocket.

Also, agree with Kharv, they don't need a hair trial either.

Just a thought but why don't you say you'll provide a bag and get one on ebay like this

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Organza-Favour-Bags-12cm-17cm-Aubergine-/180989651573?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&hash=item2a23d2ea75

It's not at all expensive, (you get 10 for £3.00), she can fit her lip gloss, cash and phone in there, her OH can hold onto it and she really won't need anything else. Don't tell her what it is and if she refuses to use it then you've not lost a fortune.

When I have been BM before (about 5 times!) I only ever got a bag once, never expected it, but it was this and I just stuck it on my wrist when I wasn't having photos done etc.

She actually doesn't need one (does she expect a cross the body one to be used in your photos?!?!)

It sounds like (and forgive me for being rude) she's out for all she can get for free from you!

    Tell her to F off

None of my BMs got a hair trial, I sent them to the salon with a picture of what I wanted on the morning. Salon wanted £30 for a trial and there was no way I was paying that! I did get mines a wee bag but it was from ebay for around £7 I think, ours was at town hall tho so we didn't have bedrooms or anything so mines did actually need one, but I bought it and gave them it, no consultation had - coast bag for a BM, she's having a laugh!

    This!!!

She probably acting up more cos she OHs sister.

The glare sounds evil! She's expecting way too much. It's a privelige to be a bridesmaid and she should be grateful that you even asked, let alone expect you to buy extra stuff for her! Especially when you've bought them a lot already!

Mine said they would like to be able to use a bag and I said that's fine, as long as they give them to their partners before walking down the aisle and that they could use whatever bag they wanted. They were all quite happy with that! xx

Never had a bag, wouldnt want a bag, avoid carrying a bag in my everyday life as much as possible, so certainly wouldnt want to be lumbered with one as a bridesmaid, tell her to stick it down her nude coloured bra and get on with it!

I think you've spent more than enough on the bridesmaids. I have 4 bridesmaid and will get a hair trial for one of them to see what it looks like and it'll probably be my sister. The others will have to wait fo rhte day! As for handbags, I don't think they are necesssary and considering what else you've brought, if they want one they should buy there own!!

We're having my OH's sister to be a bridesmaid - lets just hope it doesn't turn out like this!

If i were you, i'd tell her where to stick it. She's got waaay to big for her boots. If she doesn't quit it, she's out - simple. She can either buy a different bra or bugger off. You need somebody that isn't a pain in the ass every 5 seconds. We haven't picked dresses, but they aren't going to be needing bags, the bedrooms are just up the stairs - they can use that as a very large bag.

    ?

    This made me laugh!

So the general consensus is that she is being unnecessarily high maintenace...got to face up to the death stare and suggest again she uses one of her own bags!

    Thanks everyone!

Don't buy her a bag and don't feel like you should buy her a bag either!

Practice your own death stare...perfect it....then hit it right back at her the next time she tries it on you.

Then tell her to F off.
