Bake Off Final Wedding Cakes

overtherainbow, 23 October, 2013 at 14:49 Posted on Planning 0 13

What did you all think of the wedding cakes on the final of Great British Bake Off? I quite liked Frances' s cake but didn't like the other two at all.

Same here, I quite liked Frances' but not the others'. I'd be very disappointed if my cake turned out like Kimberley's!

I didnt really like any of them, but they only had 7 hours to do them.....im sure that professionals have longer than that when doing something special with all three layers different flavours. One didnt even look like a wedding cake tbh.

Frances looked the best but I'd rather eat Ruby's. They said it was over baked but to the untrained mouth I'm sure it tasted lovely. Sponge, cream, lemon, raspberries yum yum yum. I've simple tastes.

Frances' did look amazing though. Not sure what Kimberly's random checkered pattern and blobs were about - I think she would have won it if her cake wasnt so random. Plus she screwed up her pie. They were all so good though!

omg just realising how massive the withdrawal symptons are going to be for this years GBBO Smiley sad

Yes, I also think I would have been very disappointed if I was expecting an all singing, all dancing, with bells on cake and I got one of those Smiley sad

I liked Ruby's the best (for flavours and colours) I think if she'd had longer it would have looked nice.

I don't think I would have liked the taste of Frances one, I don't like the vegetable confetti.

Kimberley's I felt was badly decorated. The stamp looked messy and the silver looked a bit dirty on the white. I think if she'd done coloured fondant or something it would have looked a bit nicer.

6 hours isn't a long time though, I think if they'd had longer there would have been some really impressive cakes there.

I think it showed that none of them have looked at wedding cakes very much! I was imagining what I would do, having looked at so many wedding cakes as a bride to be, I think I would've come up with something pretty cool! I was surprised at their ideas - they seemed a bit clueless...

Frances deserved her win - hers was the most complete and well thought and given a little more time, I think it would've been perfected even more. It was interesting to see the differences in creativity - Kimberley didn't seem to have much imagination or skill with hers. It looked quite "dirty" and unfinished.

I'd have thought the wedding cake theme would've allowed them to really go to town on the designs. Perhaps the pressure was too much.

If I end up with a cake that looks like theirs it best taste amazing!!

Although I agree it takes a lot longer to make a wedding cake than 6 hours I was still disappointed with what they made.

Just like last year I got the winner completely wrong! I'm glad it wasn't Kimberly (sorry!)

I think the time they had to make them, they all did well but none of them to my taste really and none of them looking like wedding cakes as such. Frances' cake was the best looking out of them all though. I didn't like the print that Kimberley did on the top tier and her quilting patterns wasn't brill. Ruby's dragonflies and details looked really rough. I'm sure they tasted amazing though!

For me it would be Frances's outside with Ruby's inside .. just to mix it up.

But 6hrs to do a wedding cake, they did better than i would have for sure. But that stamp looked awful, wasnt a good move at all, looked so messy.

I think that about sums up my thoughts. I agree they didn't have enough time to do a decent job on the cakes so for me it was a bit of a shame that they chose that task if there wasn't much scope to really do it justice. Kimberley's did look very messy and dirty.

It made me realise how amazing my godmother is for making me such a beautiful cake, knocked socks off all three of theirs on appearance. No idea how long it took her though and I know some of the layers were fake underneath which makes it easier to decorate apparately.

I thought Ruby's looked very amateur, which pains me to say because I'm a big fan of hers.

So glad that Kimberley didn't win, what a self-satisfied madam! And, her pie and cake were rubbish, much to my satisfaction! I was happy for either Ruby or Frances to win, but Frances' cake was by far the best. Not necessarily the wedding cake I'd choose but much better than the other 2. I just hunk their designs were poor, if they had planned better I think hey could have got a more wow appearance during that time. I would have fried if Kimberley or Ruby's cakes were my wedding cake! Sure they tasted great though! I shall miss GBBO ??

Agreed.....she had that made for the cake.....language phrases like that have been done to death in the past, so it was nothing fresh.....

Ruby ran out of time and her presentation looked messy for a wedding cake IMHO. She was though, a fair contender every week...

Frances was the best one for the time they had in hands. She was great timing it and delivering something so pretty and full of different flavours.

I think Kimberly bitten more than she could chew and the cake she would have made would take longer to complete on a good bought cake standard.

Ruby's on the other side was just too simple, didn't like the mix of the different icings and the colours she chosen Smiley sad

It was just disappointed coming from the arguebly best amateur baker from GB, was expecting better from Kim and Ruby!

But having said that, I am getting my cake as a present, baked by FMIL, so I'll be defo happy with any cake that turns up! Smiley smile
