I have this one and it's really good and you can never go wrong with Mary Berry!

And I would like Lorraine Pascal's one as well:-

Also have you sent off your app for GBBO?

I'm going to get my mum the PH book. I've not got a lot of baking books either, but it would be a good start to get Mary Berry's ones and get revising!

I'm not applying, I'm not up to the standard they'd need, no way!

I've got the Primrose Bakery book too, it's similar to the Hummingbird ones but less American.

I know I did - I got the form and when I started filling it in I realised I'd only baked cakes (simple ones at that!) and that I'd never made anything else they'd asked for so the questions like "what is the most advanced type of bread you've made?" my answer is 'erm, buying posh bread from the delhi?!"

I have Mary Berry's Baking Bible, it's fab.

My SIL bought me this last Christmas: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boy-Who-Bakes-Edd-Kimber/dp/0857830457/ref=sr_1_23?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1352456333&sr=1-23 which has some interesting recipes, not tried many yet though!

Honestly, it's £2.50. It's got fabby recipes in it (even for a non-cook like me) and I had an early copy that was my mum's! Coffee kisses anyone?

I neeeeeed the Mary Berry book. I love baking but I need to expand my repertoire beyond cakes, muffins, cookies and fudge. I really want to get into doing pastry but am scared of mucking it up!

Hey Flow, good luck with your application to GBBO I tried to apply but im not allowed :-( One book that i would recommend that was recommended to me on my patisserie course is 'The roux Brothers on patisserie' it is quite an old book but has all of the basic techniques in and using them you can tweak them to make pretty much anything you want. i recently bought Eric Lanlards master Cakes which is pretty good too!

Paul Hollywood's book is bloody amazing!! There's a bias towards bread, but plenty of sweet stuff too. I've made a few things - recipes were fairly straightforward and the end results were delicious Smiley smile

Good luck with your GBBO application Smiley smile
