Bands

My fiancée and I planned on having four live bands, how much on average do you think a band would charge for around a 1hour set?

    Hi,

We have an hour acoustic set at the ceremony then the band is back on for about 2 hours the evening...

For just the hour acoustic set we were quoted between £300-500 by a number of bands. That might give you some idea.

    Hope this helps x

Our first band has quoted us £400 for less than an hour, they're not having to travel far and we are providing all of the PA and a sound engineer. They need to get there with their instruments, set up and play. Do you think this sounds a lot or reasonable, I'm not sure.

I think that is quite reasonable, it would probably be their only gig of the night. We're paying £500 for our band on 'mates rates'

I think that sounds very reasonable. We find that most bands offer 2 hours performance as standard, but if a couple need less than this, it doesn't tend to alter the price much as it's still a night out of the band's diary and they still need to earn the same amount that day. It's always a tricky one to explain to our clients who are only after a short amount of time.

If a band can finish early enough to make another gig that evening, then they may well be able to bring the fee down.

It is so hard to know what is and isn't reasonable isn't it! Especially as usually as soon as you say the W word the price goes up by a rather large percentage!

Well I think I was a little overly hopeful as they aren't a professional band, but as I wanted around 4, I'm now worrying I've bitten of more than I can chew!

If you think there may not be enough time for 4 what about 2 bands with the change over happening at the same time as the buffet is being served and by the time everyone has eaten the next band will be ready to go.

Our reception starts at 2 in the afternoon, DJ starts at 7, it's basically a one day festival. Yes we are crazy. I know how the timings generally work as I was in a band myself (albeit some time ago) interestingly with my OH and we used to rehearse at the venue we're marrying in!

    Hi Metalbride!

It sounds like you know exactly what you want and it should be great fun!

I'm guessing you want more of rock style band and this will work well with quick changeovers. Although if it's all relaxed and you can keep some recorded music going everyone will be happy.

I would advise having a separate sound engineer to keep an ear on all the differents bands levels as one setting won't suit all so factor that into your cost with the PA etc.

Thanks, the venue we've hired is technically a recording studio and live venue so their own sound engineer and PA plus all the equipment except instruments is included in the price, it was a huge factor for us in picking the venue. It's just finding the bands now add bands that aren't professional are hard to book! (Also some aren't so good or practised when live.)
