bands and Photographers - Scotland

Bride2b27, 4 November, 2009 at 20:29 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi All

I now have my evnue booked - Airth Castle in Falkirk - absolutely LOVE it!!!!

Now im planning on trying to organise a band and the photographer (everyone keeps telling me this is the thing to do), just wondering if anyone has any recomendations???

I have looked at a few bands which are qoting about £1000 and a couple of photographers i saw at a wedding event were quoting up to £1,700. Ideally i would like to keep costs down - as everyone does.

Any help/ideas would be fab

Thanks

I'm a wedding videographer and have worked with loads of great togs who are under your budget - Graham at GJ Photography is really down to earth and takes a nice snap or two ? http://www.weddingsglasgow.com./ there's also Kate at www.katebrandwoodphotography.co.uk

I filmed a wedding last weekend in Larbert (the Glenbervie.. I think it's the same group as Airth castle actually) who had the band Aurora playing and they were fantastic - I have no idea what they charge though but I would say they're the best I've seen... really skilled musicians!

When exactly are you getting married? Might be able to give you a photographer recommendation...unless its the 28th of August lol.....she's a semi professional but has been doing loads of weddings. Already had my engagement shoot with her. She has some pics up on Flickrhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/photographybyastrid/show

Entertainment I need to organise myself still, so can't advise there yet.

Oh wow, that's cool, you're the first person I 'meet' that has the same supplier. Did you have any pics taken with her yet?

Hi there - for bands take a look at Beep the Jeep, we had them at our own wedding, only two guys but they have a great sound, great personality - we were about £800 a couple of years ago - everyone at our wedding raved about them.

For photographers I'd be giving you a biased response - so what I always suggest to people is to firstly think about what style of photography you are after - is it traditional, modern, reportage / wedding photojournalism - then home in on your preferred style and look for a specialist in that particular style of photography. Study their website carefully - select a shortlist of say three and go meet them face to face - you need to see their photography first hand and check if you click with them on a personal level - you are trusting them with photographing memories that will last for generations.

When you see them make sure you see complete weddings, not just their favourite images from their portfolio.

On budget, your finished product will have a bearing on this (i.e. style quality of album etc), but if you want a good photographer be prepared to pay a little more for quality and customer service - remember your wedding photographs are one of the few things you are left with after your wedding day. Bands and photographers are booked up quite early, so if you have your heart set on a particular vendor, book them as soon as you can.

Best of luck with it all - Airth Castle is absolutely gorgeous.

Also check out Fleur di Lis in Stirling for your flowers - very reasonably priced and fabulous service, and just along the road from Airth Castle.

    Cheers

    Hiya,

I'm gettin married in Edinburgh but my fiancé is from Falkirk.

We had a look at Airth Castle... it is absolutely fantastic and I've heard their service is impeccable.

We're trying to find a ceilidh band, so unfortunately I don't think I can help you there.

Our photographer is Dom from Duke Photography and we are incredibly pleased with our choice,
based in Edinburgh, we went in and told him our budget and he worked out the best package he could for what we wanted and what we could pay.
Have a look at his website www.dukestudios.co.uk ...he is very good at finding out what kind of style you want and both my fiancé and I find him extremely easy to get on with. Which I think is important. We have met with him since and discussed ideas, even though our wedding is 18 months away he is very keen to grasp what you want on the day. My boss used him also and said that the service was fantastic, barely noticed him on the day and her photos are stunning!

I would suggest meeting with him to see how he can help, he didnt make us feel under any objigation to sign with him and totally understood that we wanted to shop around.

    Hope this helps!

    xo
