Bands in the South East

blw1810, 8 January, 2013 at 20:18 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hello everyone :-)

This is my first post (apart from adding my name to the 2013 brides list!) we got engaged in October during a surprise trip to New York (Amazing!) and we have set the date for September this year.

So far have booked the church, venue, sent save the dates and purchased bridesmaids dresses. Next on the list is to find a band.

We want a Rock/Pop band who play current music like Kings of Leon, Killers, Arctic Monkeys etc but also some oldies. Can anyone recommend any? A couple of friends have recommended using Function Central, the website seems to have some great bands (from listening to the short demo's) however, when I try to look for some youtube clips of them in action or look for them online so we can try and go to some gigs we cant find them anywhere. Is this an 'agency thing' where you cant see anything unless you request it through the website. I'd happily book through the agency but was hoping to enjoy a couple of evenings out at live band gigs to check them out first!

Thank you all in advance :-)

    Hi,

We had the same thoughts but found it difficult. In the end we booked through Function Central (the Clementines) and asked them to send a youtube clip which they did.

I haven't had the wedding yet so havent seen the band but couldn't recommend them enough.

It's very common when booking via an agent that bands / singers will have a different name with different agents, and to the name you would find on the band's own web site. This is done so people won't see a band on an agency web site, then google the band directly and get a cheaper price by avoiding the agents' fee.

Whilst I prefer to do all my own booking and admin and acitvely avoid agencies, just because you can't find any existence of the band elsewhere doesn't mean that they don't exist or aren't good / popular.

Just make sure that the demos/videos you hear feature the actual band members that will attend on your day. There's another slightly underhand tactic of swapping around musicians willy nilly. Replacing one band member becuase of illness etc is understandable and not such a big deal, but I've heard stories of a completely different band line up appearing on the day under the original band name which is slightly misleading!

    Hello!

We were talking to a band called the Von Lugers'; a friend of ours had seen them at another wedding and said they were amazing- like you, we wanted a more rock / alternative covers band rather than the usual 'Mustang Sally' (vom)...they were very nice, in terms of pricing they originally quoted £1000 but after I spoke to them (we had been previously let down by another band so didn't have a huge budget for a replacement) he dropped the price to £750. They do have a website: http://www.weddingbandhampshire.co.uk/

They are based in Hants but will prob travel. The reason I'm recommending them is cos we didn't use them in the end, but they were so nice that I feel like I owe them! The only reason we didn't use them is cos my bro has just joined a covers band....who will do ours for free! ?
