Bank charges... Should they give you notice before applying them?

The Duchess, 15 July, 2009 at 21:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I have had bank charges levied on my account last month and went immediately into the red, as a direct result of this, I automatically incurred more charges.
Sorry I'm getting carried away but i just need to know if the bank should be letting me know about these charges IN WRITING and BEFORE they take the money out?

TIA

Duchy ❤️

I should imagine that they have, either in terms and conditions when you opened the account or by mail at some point but they don't have to let you know about them on the occasion they apply them, i don't think.

I've been caught with this before, the charges are noted in your statement, or if you are online and paperless billing, it will be in there.

I'm sure they have to notify you about any charges.

    Hi Legless ?
    Hi July ?

I'm not sure which this would fit into. Obviously I know I'll be charged for certain things but when they're taking £90 a month I really need to know when they're going to take it so I can try and budget for it.

I am going to contact them regarding this beause it's a lot of money. I just wondered if they had a legal obligation to tell me how much they're going to take and when.

? Yes it has been a busy few years since we got married in 2004. I was 8 weeks pregnant then. I have changed jobs, moved from teaching into educational administration and love my job, work in higher education. Mainly though having and looking after children has been what I have been up to. Maisie my youngest is just 12 weeks old.

Glad to hear all is good with you, my husband was talking about Bingo the other night and I remembered chatting to you and Prinnie on here about it once when he was nagging me to go to bingo and laughing so much.?

    Which bank is it?

Barclays have always written to me in the past telling me when the charges will come out.

But regardless, you're not supposed to incur charges if their charges are what makes you go O/d, so ring them up and have a pop. They shouldn't be charging that amount anyway, it's going through the courts at the minute, isn't it?

You still selling jewellery then, Mrs?
