Bank holiday change

SunnyBlueBridesmaid83246, 10 June, 2019 at 12:18 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi all,

Has anyone else’s wedding been affected by the early May bank holiday change next year? We booked our wedding for 3rd May knowing that most of our guests would not be working the following day due to the bank holiday and now that’s been taken away. We don’t know what to do! Our venue deposit is non refundable or transferrable and we can’t really afford to loose the money plus we’ve booked 7 suppliers already but we’re really concerned family and friends will not be able to stay as late or enjoy the day as much now :-(

I've seen a few people in this sort of predicament. I would have a chat with your venue - they may be more lenient as it's clear why you picked that day in the first place, and it's not your fault that the bank holiday was removed.

Other than that, have a chat with your friends and family - they have plenty of notice if they wanted to book the day off - 3 day week for the win! Failing that, I have that day off already, I'll come to your wedding and party!

Sorry I can't be more help, it really sucks that people like yourself have been left in this position. Just chat to your venue before you panic. Good luck x

Maybe I’m missing something here, but I’ve read about this in the news as well as here and I don’t see the big problem.

If people wont come to your wedding because they have to work the next day we’re they worth inviting in the first place.

A couple of considerations - does this render your price now difference since it would be a normal Sunday (ie would you get a discount on choosing a Sunday)

a friend of of mine has a venue that happily changed their date to the new bank holiday - but of course that’s banking on all your suppliers too. Just speak to them
