'Banned' Music From Your Wedding

Rizzo, 4 March, 2011 at 10:28 Posted on Planning 0 92

What songs/artists are you 'banning' from your wedding and why?

We're 'banning' the following:

The Beatles - I appreciate what they have done for music but I don't enjoy their songs - I'm more of a Kinks fan. I think only my Dad is gutted about this.

Michael Jackson - This isn't about 'certain allegations' (best not go there - it's a very controversial subject!) but his music - his constant 'whooping' etc drives me insane. The Jackson 5 are welcome though....

Sex Is On Fire - Kings Of Leon, awful song and very overrated IMO of course!

We All Stand Together - The Frog Chorus, it reminds me of my Nan and I don't want me and my MOH to cry.

Angels - Robbie Williams, was played at my Nan's funeral.

Imagine - John Lennon, he was treating his son like crap when he released this song and he allegedly showed support to the IRA so, IMO,that makes the song hypocritical. Awful song as well!

'The way to Amarillo' - it reminds me of every naff wedding I've attended. They also had beige buffets. Coincidence??

Nothing that reminds me of kids parties - Agadoo, YMCA etc.

My main one is Oasis and Beady Eye. I cannot stand the sound of Liam Gallaghers horrible voice. Also on that list would be Duffy, why was she not drowned at birth?

Also banned will be Delilah by Tom Jones although it will no doubt get requests, my OH has put his foot down about the being no football songs other than Birmingham City ones.

Agreed with Mooey on Angels... heard it at a few funerals too.

I am sure I will think of more!

One of my worst fears is Duffy and James Blunt teaming up for a duet...

Will you have any Oasis songs where Noel sings lead? IMO, his voice is so much nicer than Liam's - especially now his sounds like it's shot to pieces.

Banning Shout by Lulu as well - she makes me want to blooming shout - swear words!

We are writting a Banned list, rather than a play list ?

Top of OHs list is: Sean Paul / Gyptain (2 of my fave artists!)

Top of mine is - anything which requires actions - YMCA / Macarina (sp), the sitting on the floor one, the Time wharp one?? and Saturday night - I don't know all their names properly but I have mental scars from the actions in the past

Anything that reminds us of an ex - Usher's yeah, Aerosmith's - Don't want to miss a thing.

    The list goes on.....

Anything 'kids party' - superman song, Agadoo etc! Why at a wedding?!

I'm sure there will be loads more!

Any disco music, can't stand it, a blot on the musical landscape. i.e. anything that would be played at a club night called "Boogie Nights".

Any cheese party stuff, YMCA/Oops Upside Your Head/etc. i.e. anything that would be played at a kid's party.

Any cheese pop stuff, Steps/S Club 7/Take That/Aha/Tiffany/etc. i.e. anything that would be played at a club night called "Top Banana".

Any late Kings Of Leon, sell outs. Only tracks from first two albums acceptable, and second album only just.

I have (generously) sanctioned the playing of several bands but specific songs only. For example, the only Abba song allowed will be "I Do I Do I Do" (and only if someone requests Abba). I do not want to hear "Dancing Queen" on my wedding day.

Oh, also, no singer/songwriter Jack Johnson/Adele/James *unt etc. Blurgh.

If H2b and I did this I think we'd only end up with foo fighters and the killers that could be played as they seem to be the only music we both like n then I only like a selected few! lol.

    I wish I had a Top Banana club where I live. ☹️

I agree with you about KOL - the same applies to Bon Jovi as well, anything released after their These Days album is crud IMO. I used to love Bon Jovi, now they're just middle of the road crap.

I think I need to bookmark this post - so many good suggestions for our banned list!

I have to say I am a secret KoL lover - only one song mind - Use somebody.!

Also have to add - JessyJ, Keisha, McFly, Westlife, especially "You raise me up" as we played it at my Nans funeral - I can handle it at the church before alcohol, but not at the evening do.

We've asked for no ABBA, Madonna (OH's ex-gf was obsessed & he can't bear listening to it now!), cheesy boy bands or 'novelty' songs like the cha-cha slide or the macarena.

Because they are dreadful? Smiley smile

Seriously, I could possibly, maybe, at a push if drunk, go for one of the earlier numbers, something from the Relight My Fire era. But nothing since they got back together. And no Robbie solos.

And thanks to whoever reminded me earlier - no Killers. Smiley winking

I'd be the same if anyone said one of "my" bands was dreadful Smiley smile

Seriously, I'm neutral to Take That. I liked it well enough when I was 18 (although admittedly not enough to buy any albums or owt, just enough to dance to on a night out) but that was soooo long ago and I can't gather any enthusiasm these days. I appear to have nurtured something of a dislike for any band/artist who doesn't appear to be able to play guitar (or other instrument). I know Gary plays the old Joanna but he doesn't do it quite as well as Jack White... I'm well-prepared to be called a snob but I categorise Take That as a group of singers, not a group of musicians (although admittedly they are more "musician-like" than anything the X Fucktor can churn out).

I wouldn't leave my wedding reception if Take That were played. I might do if the DJ thought James Blunt was a good idea. Smiley smile

I'm sorry Flow but I have to now disappoint you. ☹️

I loved the old Take That as much as the next person - they were FUN! I loved Robbie when he went solo - then he turned into a weird, egotistical dick. Then TT got back together as a foursome and I thought they were 'alright' - sadly the XF and BGT changed that when they kept overplaying their songs and they started having a new meaning. They also went all serious on us - I want the FUN TT back, not this 'manband' business. If NKOTB and the BSB can reform and have fun, why can't TT? Sadly, they let The Fat Dancer back in and now when TT perform I watch to see if Robbie does something weird or to see what his eyes are like.

PS. IMO, the only time Mark Owen should be allowed near a microphone on his own is when it's switched off....

    *gets off soapbox*

I'd ban Abba (over rated and crap), Beegess (my ears can't take them) Queen (played to death when I was a kid by mum so hate them), Meatloaf (awful sweaty man makes me want to heave whenever I hear him), beautiful south (totally crap and cheesy) Tom Jones and Duffy (bit controversial as I'm Welsh but hate them all the same lol)

Also hate anything by eminem (what a knob) and also hate party songs like timewarp oops upside your head, YMCA, Agadon't and annoying girly songs like raining men, sisters, girls wanna have fun, I will survive etc...

I'm sure I'm bound to think of more but these are the worst and would shoot any DJ if he or she played these....x

This thread has really made me laugh!! We are banning anything from Boyzone or Westlife - cannot stand them! Our first dance is to 'Better' but is MUST be the Tom Baxter version as Boyzone really runined it (if the DJ plays their version we both walk!)

PS I'm going to see Take That in July - Christmas pressie from my lovely daughter - can't wait.... Sorry!
