Barn reception/wedding?

Sian15, 25 October, 2012 at 11:44 Posted on Planning 0 23

Have any of you had or planning your wedding/reception in a barn? I really love the idea, they look so lovely. Just wondering how it went or what your thoughts are on the idea?

Hi Sian, yes, we are. I love it because they are beautiful, and as we are having a winter wedding, it adds to the whole feel of what I want in terms of centrepieces etc. It is warm and romantic because of the fairy lights and candles.

And most of all, everything is one room which I think is great. It means the wedding party doesn't become dispersed.

Are you considering going for a barn wedding?

They look very romantic! We have been looking to have a barn wedding but no luck so far in finding one that will do the wedding and the reception! Most i have found have been really expensive too! But i suppose that is what you have to pay aha.
How did you go about finding the barn?

Yes, they can be quite expensive. We got in engaged at the end of April this year and wanted to get married this December and the 8th was the last Saturday of the year they left had available, so we got a slightly reduced rate - but obviously this is an exceptional circumstance and not everyone books last minute!

I knew about this barn from word of mouth really - it is quite local to me.

Where abouts are you from? Some other hitchers might be able to recommend something. x

Oh lucky! I'm near Salisbury in Wiltshire. Nothing around here really venue wise, we have the search further afield! Smiley sad

Exactly this. We loved the rustic feel of a barn and we're having a winter wedding - our barn is actually a purpose built tythe barn so it looks rustic but has all mod cons like underfloor heating, plus an huge open fire place. I like the idea that it will all be in one place, and was actually pretty reasonable for the actual hire of the place, there's obviously food, etc on top, but it was the cheapest I saw (and I looked at a lot!).

Our reception is in a converted barn that looks like a castle.

I went to a lovely barn wedding in Wiltshire a couple of years ago. I'll try and find the invitation when I go home and let you know where it was.

I got married in a barn in Maidenhead, it was brilliant, versatile and enough space to have everything in one place (a smaller barn for ceremony big one for reception) - Although I agree most barns I looked at were quiet expensive, I found a good deal Smiley smile

Yes we did! Our venue had several barns, we had our ceremony and it was decorated with fairy lights. We had a BBQ type meal. Our flowers weren't too arranged (if you get what I mean) to fit in with the rustic feel, and my mum collected old stoneware vases to put them in.

If you can travel up a bit to Oxfordshire, this is where my friend got married, and it was amazing - they had giant garden games on the lawn as well!

I'm getting married in church but are having our reception in the Tithe Barn at Great Fosters in Surrey.

I only ever really wanted a barn venue, so it's all we looked at.

There are few not to far from you...

I say not far, they're under two hours. But if you want to get married and have a reception in the same place, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

If you are willing to travel up to 2 hours I would really recommend Lillibrooke Manor in Maidenhead. So flexible and really good value for money in my opinion
