Barn venues in the South and finding your perfect venue

bettylu88, 19 November, 2013 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi everyone.

So thanks to a little reassurance from posters here, we have decided to get married close to where we live and just hope those who we would like to come will be willing to travel. So now we have begun looking for a venue. We hope to get married winter 2014 so not got masses of time to plan things i suppose!

I have two questions! My first is does anyone have any recommendations for cosy venues in and around Kent/Sussex. Something like a barn or oldey woldey style cosy place with bit of history. I have had a look around and found a few but want to get suggestions Smiley smile

Secondly, how long did it take you to find your venue and did you just *know*

We are having our reception at Southend Barns near Chichester. It didn't take us long to decide as we saw this and loved it!

There are a couple of others in the area too- Upwaltham and Farbridge I think they are called. Worth a look, I am obviously biased and think Southend is the nicest! The people there are really lovely too...

    You could try:

Pangdean Barn, Upwaltham Barns, Grittenham Barn, Fitzleroi Barn and Old Luxters Barn.

All very nice with their own unique features. Smiley smile

There's also Swallows Oast in Kent. TBH, I don't know many over that way despite living there most of my earlier years.

    I went to a wedding here: http://grittenhambarn.com/
It was in Sussex - beautiful place, fire pit at night (so romantic) and who could forget the donkeys! Loved it!

This is the most STUNNING venue. It's in Kent.

The photographs on the website don't do it justice at all, it's absolutely gorgeous and the land just outside the barn is lovely. Ha, it's my dream venue should I get married one day ?

I don't think it's too expensive either for what it is. Good Luck!

Hi Bettylu! I'm getting married at Upwaltham Barns and I can't recommend it highly enough - they have been absolutely amazing every step of the way and so helpful and the venue itself is stunning x

Thanks everyone for your replies. We're going to visit some in the new year and just hope they have availability for winter 2014. I know so many people book years in advance, in a slight panic about it all now!

I would go sooner rather than later, most couples get engaged over christmas and the new year.

Yeh really want to go this year but my OH is in bloody Army so getting time to do anything is a nightmare. Have booked to visit on 11th Jan, fingers crossed it will be ok and we will manage to get a date (if we love it as much as we think we will of course!)

Which one are you going to see?

Some will hold a date for a couple of weeks for you, maybe you could go just before new year and if you love it pencil in a date? Then confirm when your other half has seen it? Ours did.

Have you tried Random Hall in West Sussex, just outside Horsham?

Its lovely and cosy, old wooden beams and fireplaces ?.

We getting married here, they have a converted barn bit where the ceremony, and then wedding breakfast takes place. And then the rest of the venue of where the evening reception is ?

Southend barns is a new wedding venue and the prices are quite low at the moment and that's why they are getting booked up quite quickly, I know all about the situation you are in, have booked enough armed forces couples to know what you are going through.

    how exciting, it is beautiful!

We went and saw it in late November and they pencilled a date in for us for two weeks before we paid our deposit. If you can pop by yourself and see it earlier then I think that could be a good idea.

I also recommend looking at the caterers prices as you can only use Field and Fork, worth checking out first!

Let me know how you get on!

It can be tricky for sure. He's likely to be away for a fair bit next year too hence why I want to get venues looked at quickly!

L&L - ohhhh what was it like? I'm in love with it from what I've seen so far

So you are left with all the wedding planning ? You will love Southend Barns, make sure you have a look at the back of the venue, it's a short drive and they have a lake which is really nice.
