Based on the evidence, absolutely the right decision.

Bloody hell, not really paid alot of attention to the specifics of the case, but always thought that even though the forensics were questionable, he killed her.

Is he gonna be in line for a huge compensation payout for spending 8 years in jail?

Does anyone know why the gun residue evidence wasn't permitted in the retrial?

Almost certainly - I think that's standard procedure for miscarriages of justice. Stefan Kiszko was supposed to get half a million (for sixteen years), but sadly died before it was paid out.

I believe that the speck of residue was so minuscule that it could have been cross contamination in the lab. I also recall something about the lab not following procedures in relation to the integrity of the garment on which it was found.

Thanks Baron. It was basically that evidence that convicted him last time wasn't it? Totally right he should be found not guilty on the evidence presented then.

The evidence was flimsy at the time and I was suspicious that the jury hadn't been properly advised as to what 'beyond all reasonable doubt' meant.

Rather appropriately in the light of recent events, the Serb hitman theory has bobbed to the surface again.

I have to say I always found this one hell of a lot more plausible than the Barry George theory, since there was both a motive (Dando was a prominent hate figure in Serbia as a result of BBC broadcasts seen as being pro-NATO and pro-Kosovan independence) and a precedent (an anti-Milosevic journalist was murdered just days earlier, and a senior BBC executive had been threatened).

To my mind, Barry George was convicted on the basis that the he was painted as a weirdo and the jury lapped it up. I don't think the truth will ever come out on this.

So he's been found not guilty of murdering Jill Dando? Has he been found guilty of continuing to impersonate Paul Young (aged 80s rocker)? Come on!! He looks JUST like him ... or is it just me?

Are you saying Paul Young did it?

Is it just me or does anyone think of George Michael when they see his name? I think it's the 2 first names thing and the George...
