Help please! I have just sold a pushchiar on eb*ay for £150 and the money has gone into my paypal account, but the status of the funds is on hold, apparently ebay will release the funds when I have received positive feedback from the buyer, is this usual? I don't sell things that ofeten and have never known this before?

It's a relatively new thing and one of the reasons I won't sell on ebay anymore. I always waited until funds were cleared before shipping items and I think this and the other measures ebay have put in place are detrimental to sellers.

It is a random security measure (not to mention incredibly annoying). It may be because you have low seller feedback but it's generally more random than that.

There is a theory that if you refund the buyer 1p then the funds will go through but I don't know how well tested it is.

You should have received a notification that the funds are being held which reads:

"We're holding the funds for 1 payment that you've received for items sold on eBay.

The total amount on hold in your account is: £xxx.xx GBP

PayPal and eBay are working together to make it safer than ever to buy on eBay. One of the boldest steps is to identify transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud and holding the payments from sellers for a period of time to help ensure that the transactions go smoothly.

To get access to the funds sooner, please post the item as soon as possible. We'll release the payment for the eBay item when one of the following occurs:

    * The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
    * It's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held

    Additional hold period

If you do receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved"

In short, it really sucks but is genuine.

Thanks all, she seems genuine enough but I'm not happy that they have introduced this and it will make me reluctant to sell things in this way.

God that sounds totally crap! Ebay is becoming a real PITA to sell things.
