BBQ/Party food ideas and help...

Tizzie, 11 July, 2012 at 16:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Sorry for asking ANOTHER question, but you lovely ladies are so helpful.

Were planning on having a family BBQ party for my Hs birthday for around 15-20 people. If its a bit dull/miserable then we will cook outside and eat in our living room and if it's lovely then well stay outside.

My only problem is if it's pouring down/freezing cold and knowing Scotland it probably will be! I want things I can cook inside (ie shove in the oven) as I don't want to spend all day in the kitchen either.

The only thing I will definitely have is chicken skewers as they are so easy to do either way.

So what I'm asking, what do you like/have at BBQs? What would you be able to cook indoors? What sides etc do you suggest?

Thank you!!

Buy pre-cooked BBQ/Spicy chicken portions which can be oven cooked.

    Corn on the cob.

    Garlic bread.

Don't forget to make lots of potato salad, green salad, fruit salad, etc - which people can pick at.

Bananas in tin foil with chocolate in the oven for dessert.

Don't do too much choice, as it's so much more hassle. Stick to three meats perhaps - your chicken, burgers and sausages.

Then do potato salad, coleslaw (a must!) and a 'normal salad of leaves/tomato/cucumber etc.

Rolls for burgers/sausages and a couple of desserts

Restuffed jackets - do jackets as normal, cut in half, scoop out the potato leaving the skins whole. In a bowl mix either corned beef and onion or cheese and onion with the mash and then restuff the jackets and pop back in the oven for 20-30 mins. Yummmm

    I usually do the following:

    patatas bravas or potato salad

Tuk Tuk rice salad. Recipe here: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2011/jan/17/tuk-tuk-salad-recipe-allegra-mcevedy

If you're cooking indoors, these ribs are delicious: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/five-spice_baked_ribs_40323

I also make halloumi and veg kebabs and marinade them in olive oil, oregano, mint, garlic, S&P.

Fish is also good on the BBQ (or oven). Get two fillets of fish or a whole sea bass/trout. Stuff with a few garlic cloves and a sprig of rosemary. Bung in tin foil and cook.

I also make my own hamburgers. 500g of mince, S&P, 4 x slices of bread (crusts removed) blitzed and turned into breadcrumbs, one egg, one onion, chopped finely & fried and cooled and then mix all together.

Second Tray's suggestion of baked potatoes. I do mine by baking in the oven, scooping out the insides then mixing the potato with sour cream, chives and cheese. Top with more cheese then bake in the oven.

I have loads more that I do (usually make enough for a gazillion people). So if you want any other recipes/ideas, just shout.

Cocktail sausages in honey & mustard... go down a treat every bbq/party.

buy frozen raw ones, leave to defrost.. buy a jar of honey and the seeded mustard heat together in a pan, pour over sausages and cook in the oven.

Always cook up a lasagne, do a tuna pasta, salad and bbq meats xxx

Hmm can't do prawns as my mum is really allergic, we never have them in the house just in case they touch something etc. worryingly enough she keeps saying shed like to try one again *just* to see if it still has the same effect!!

H lives chorizo so I'll include that in something. Oh and honey mustard sausages sound yummy!!

    Im hungry now!!
