Be Brutal!

Panjita, 15 April, 2011 at 15:21 Posted on Planning 0 21

We are having Adele's "Make you feel my love" as our first dance and I was going to have it as my entrance music too, but having listened to it on this website, I am not sure if it just sounds a bit.. sad?

Have a listen if you have time and give me honest opinions. A lad in the office said it sounds more like a funeral song. Don't let that sway your opinion though. Just imagine yourself at a wedding and seeing the bride walk down the aisle to this song....

I think it's a lovely song but I bet it'll be played at LOADS of weddings over the coming year as she's so popular at the moment.

Don't worry about what others will think though - if you like it, have it!

I think it's a beautiful song, especially for your entrance music.

I think I would personally want something a bit cheerier for the first dance song, something that is a bit easier to dance to - but that's just me.

It is lovely - so if you want it, go for it!

That bit doesn't bother me cause I won't be at any of them lol.

You don't think it sounds a bit melancholy then? I've had a few listens and to me it sounds better each time I hear it but I am really unsure. I think this is officially the first serious wobble I have had about my choices!?

I think I would agree with your co-worker, I don't think I would feel happy walking down the aisle to that at my wedding. Maybe this is because I also don't like the song when it has words to it, it appears to me to be about someone who is trying to win back their ex partner, or stop their partner from leaving them. But as always, if it doesn't make YOU feel sad listening to it then you should have it.

Honestly? I don't think this song suits strings for a wedding. I listened to some of the other songs and they are fantastic but I just don't think it suits this song and it does sound very sad.

TBH if you and your OH want it, it doesn't matter what we think. I wanted the Bittersweet Symphony instrumental but H said it sounded like a funeral song! We ended up with "My Girl" by the Temptations so very different!

We'll be the quintessential "swayers" no doubt cause neither of us are confident movers so it'll suit us down to the ground for the first dance. Lol.

    Other choices I had are:

Here Comes the sun (but that seems like I am so up myself and think I am a godess or something)

Halo (but is that too cheestastic?)

Kissing You (again, is it a bit melancholy?)

I might just stick with Adele, it is getting better with each listen.

Me and OH are having this as our first dance - LOVE the song, I think it's gorgeous. Not walking down the aisle to it, am getting married in a Catholic Church and having a flautist so going in to Pachelbel's Canon in D, that music gives me goosepimples but is used for most weddings so people may think it is common, I just love it though!! I personally would like different music for walking in an for my first dance but that's up to u!!

    I'm having it!

Instrumental as i walk in, and with words when we sign the register. Love it.

Loved it when Bob dylan did it, but Adele has so much emotion in her voice when she sings it. every time i hear it i cry! lol

Hi Panjita, this is Steve from the LBE String Quartet. Just noticed that your post has sent 32 visitors to my website, so thought I'd say thanks!

I'm a bit biased, but I don't think it sounds sad, I prefer to describe it as a romantic tune. It has been a really popular request for us over the last year or so, but usually to be played during the signing of the register. My personal opinion is that it isn't a great entrance choice as it takes too long to get going and is too slow, especially when you consider that the average bride takes about 15 - 20 seconds to walk down the aisle!

As an example, we played at a wedding in Cain Manor (Surrey/Hampshire border, lovely venue!) today and the bride estimated that her entrance would take about 2 minutes. In reality it took about 30 seconds, including sending her bridesmaids in first! She Chose Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros as her entrance music, it sounds great played by string quartet and worked really well. I'm waffling a bit, but my point is that you need to choose something that creates the right mood in a matter of seconds and can be stopped quite soon without sounding daft. Hope that helps!

Anyway, thanks again for posting the link, great to read peoples opinions about our music, good or bad!

    Best wishes,

    Steve

Hiya, we are actually having it as our entrance music and it was OH who suggested it which is great cos I love that song so much and thought he would want something more traditional so I'm obviously biased on that front but I don't think it's sad at all and the lyrics move me every time especially when I think that the intro music will be playing whilst my bridesmaids etc walk down and then I will enter on the bit that you've already quoted and I know I'm goin to have trouble not to cry when I look at OH waiting at the end of the aisle for me lol!!!

Thanks to you all for your responses and Steve from the quartet! I am coming in last so it will be maybe a minute into it before I even get to the aisle because I've got 5 couples and a ring bearer entering before me and each couple won't enter until the first one has reached the front. I am REALLY going to milk it Smiley laugh

We've decided to stic with this song as we do both love it and I think it has sounded less sad with each listen.

Five weeks on Sunday!!! It's coming round so fast now Smiley laugh

Glad to hear you are milking it, will work well if you stick to your plan! Just make sure that eveyone else knows that they need to take their time, We've had loads of brides planning to do this, but sometimes nerves take over on the day and they all run down the aisle in a big group, looking like the start of a race! I'm not saying that always happens, but just make sure you stay calm and remember to walk s l o w l y !

Strangely enough, our bride for this Thursday has just decided to walk in to this song so I've just had the whole conversation about this!

    Good luck with everything!

    Steve
