Do you remember seeing him on Jonathon Ross, he was excellent.

I think he's come in for a lot of stick as they fly him out of the locations to go to hotels at night etc.
I see they now have a disclaimer at the start of the programme.

I was mighty impressed at him peeing hands free! wow lol

Really? I'm sure in the last series there were a number of shots of him during the night. Ray Mears would never do that (I hope). Mind you, I don;t doubt that Bear has earned his survival stripes, but I prefer to feel the whole programme is legit start to finish.

I think he;s a bit of a nutter actually, in the nicest possible way? I love all those survival progs though.

I love Bear Grylls, but my H is very cynical and all the way through the programme says things like 'as soon as the camera stops rolling one of the crew will give him a Mars bar' and 'yeah right, course he's going to sleep in that shelter all night instaed of a 5 star hotel' [B)]

i've seen lots of footage of him staying overnight but how do we know for sure that he does?

I dont really care whether he does or not, he clearly does know what he is doing and I'm sure he proves himself enough with what he does actually do without needing to put himself at risk staying in inhospitable terrain etc.

I think all these shows have an element of that tbh, because it's blindingly obvious that there's a film crew there as well, and let's face it, they don't want their star to come to any harm. I think the one I trust the most to actually do all the proper stuff is Bruce Parry (Tribe) - he really does go for it. After his recreation of the race to the Pole, he was a bag of bones, he'd obviously done it authentically.

I love Ray Mears, but you get the impression he doesn't live on nothing but roots and berries from his waistline? He's mentioned in the account of that girl who walked through Africa (from the Cape to the Med) - he went with her through CAR and apparently he was constantly on the look out for old survival techniques he could practice and preserve. Good for him.
