What are you doing in terms of skincare?

I have such a mix of products now, used to use Nivea products, used to use cold cream as my moisturiser, was given No7 stuff for xmas and have garneir and neutrogena stuff for spots..... have mud packs, face packs, apricot scrubs the lot....

but i want to settle my skin into a proper routine and wondered what products people would swear by. I have dry/oily skin, mostly oily around my nose and chin but those areas dry out too...

Cant afford profesh facials all the time so any suggestions/secrets would be great!

The one thing I would say is whoevers products you use (I recommend Virgin Vie) that you get ones that are right for your skin type, oily/combination, and also from the same range. Products are designed to work together in one range as they usually contain the same base products/ingredients. That way you get the most benefit from the products. You need a cleanser, toner, day moisturiser, night moisturiser and either a mask (best for oily skin) or a scrub. There are extra products like eye creams that you can then add in too.

Well Nona, being a Paisley girl I like to keep it simple ?

Before Applying make up - I use Oil of Olay moisturising cream, the foundation I use is a Clinique one (the new one they just launched - I got colour matched at boots in Braehead just after the wedding, its designed not to fade and it doesn't give me shiny skin like other foundations do!!) The rest of my make up is a real mixed bag of Rimmel, stuff my mum bought me from TV shopping (its really good too - it doesn't come off if you sweat etc) and boots' natural collection.

For taking it off I use Tesco My Baby baby wipes (only need 2) and then once a week I use boots cucumber facial scrub (once a month I use boots cucumber face mask) and twice a day every day as soon as I've brushed my teeth I use Clearasil face pads!

I've also been known to use Oil of Olay Daily Facial cloths.

I tend to not have too many issues with my skin - my sister on the other hand says she couldn't be bothered to use all the lotions & postions I do.

The only other thing I can think of is that as soon as I come home from where ever it is I've been (and obviously if I know I'm not going out) I take my make up off straight away. I've never left it on a moment longer than needed.

    Luv Victoria

I have combination skin too (although it's starting to dry out a bit!), and I use Clinique Take the Day Off Cleanser which is great. I love Clinique and also recommend their Dramatically Different Moisturiser as it's lovely a light.

My all time fave though is Liz Earle. The Hot Cloth Cleanser is gorgeous, they do a lovely smelling toner and gorgeous moisturisers.

Unfortunately neither ranges are cheap, so I supplement with what I see on offer. You don't have to use a whole range for everything either, pick and choose.

    C xx

I would avoid using baby wipes to remove your make up - remember what they're designed to remove ? and the fact that a baby's skin renews itself in about 7 days where as ours takes roughly 21-28 days to renew. Also they and facial wipes are not skin type specific and usually contain a lot of oil and as such won't do your oily skin any good.

Those Olay Daily Facial Wipes are nice, I love those. I'd forgotten about them so thank you for reminding me!

I can't use facial wipes, give me spots yuck!!!

    Hi nona

I use clarins face wash and moisturiser (have just upgraded to `extra firming`-how depressing). I go to bed in my make up, smoke like a trooper and drink like a docker, so I may as well use lard for all the good the clarins does me ?

I have really sensitive skin with the odd small pimple on my forehead/chin and blackheads on my nose - and dry elsewhere.

So I use simple facial wipes and No.7 moisturiser (winter) and olay moisturiser (summer) plus no.7 facial wash about everyother day.

I also like the Neutrogena black head scrub - but only used it once a week.

TBH am not doing that much - still 10months away! I am trying to eat a bit more fruit and veg, but drinking my 2litres everyday is so not happening! I am exfoliating everything once a week and slapping on thick moisturiser before I go to bed a couple times a week too. But thats only if I remember.

I reckon best beauty treatment is sleep and tons of water - and exercise. If I get 10 hours sleep, drink a litre of water and go to the gym, the next day I look amazing and don't need any concealer or anything.

    HTH

PS Hope you're feeling good today. How's stuff with the broach conversion?

Wow quite a mixture of responses.

I read about the neutrogena spot gel in a wedding magazine last month and I thought id try it, best fiver I ever spent! I used to take my make up off with nivea wipes but they changed their forumula and I use tescos vitamin e ones now coz they are cheap.... is that terrible??

my skin marks easily when ive had spots so the garnier blemish gel is good for geting rid of marks... If I could afford it id use clinique stuff as ive been on their website today too..

love virgin vies bath stuff - nearest store is in glasgow though (that and my virgin mobile are my only likes about that company at present!!)

I'm a Liz Earle girl as it's the only product I've found to suit my skin (VERY sensitive and dry) so sticking with it. It's about 36 pounds if you buy the cleanser, toner and moisturiser together and I also like their eye bright product which is like a toner for eyes and I swear has reduced my dark circles.

One of my friends has just started using dermalogica and swears by that.

I'm a big believer in soap and water and use "Simple" soap for cleansing. I have the same type of skin as you except mine is older LOL! So I need to use an anti-wrinkle moisturiser. I have always used Estee Lauder which is the only range of products that don't bring me out in either a rash or spots as I have ultra sensitive skin too. I use their Resilience Lift Face and Throat Lifting and Firming Lotion and put this on every morning - I've used this for well over 10 years and wouldn't use anything else. I use their make up too. I don;t use toner as this strips my skin and makes it sore and dry. I don't use anything on a night because my skin is oilier on a night. Once a week, I use Avon Clear Skin Exfoliator which again i have used for donkey's years and swear by it! Every month I treat myself to a non-surgical face lift (Genie) and every alternate month, I treat myself to a Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion which deep cleanses and takes the dead skin off. Both these I have done at my local Beauty Salon and they cost £30 each which is money well spent for me!

Hi Nona, it sounds as though you and I have the same skin type!

I use Garnier facial wash morning and night. I use jurlique lavender hydrating mist as a toner and decleor hydra floral moisturiser. I'm guessing you probably have the same problem as me with shine, so I use benefit dr feelgood which is possibly the best product ever. It takes away the shine so I don't need powder which just cloggs up the pores.

Once or twice a week I use decleor phytopeel mask which is great. I'm out tonight, so that will be slapped on later!

Another vote for liz earle cleanse and polish. It really is the best makeup remover I've ever used. And it leaves the skin really clean. Also her gentle face exfoliator is brilliant!

Hope that's of some use. Bit of a varied routine I guess!
