Bed Question

shoegal01, 20 August, 2009 at 10:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

Hi

I am ordering a new bed and dont know what to go for.

Our bedroom is quite small so i am ordering a storage bed.

There are 3 size options

4Ft (small double)

4ft 6 (normal)

5ft (king)

Has anyone got a small double?? Is it really small?

Do you think a king would drown a already small double bedroom?

TIA

We had a small double in our guest room. I personally think they're a bit too small for every day use, and don't save enough room to make the sacrifice worthwhile. I guess it also depends on your height and weight. I'm 5'8" and OH is 5'10", and we're each around 9 1/2 st - yet we still found it a bit of a squeeze.

    I'd go for normal double.

I would go for a normal double too, especially so I could get standard bedlinen. Although we have a double bed and a king size duvet to stop duvet arguments, so I suppose you could use a 'normal' double duvet on it.

As Flissy says, it is more down to whether yourself and your OH will fit on a smaller bed. We wouldn't, Mr J is 6'1. Width wise we are not massive though. I'd rather have a comfy bed and less space in my room.

I'd go with the biggest you can. You will sleep better if you have a bit more room.

We've got a superking as Mr numbers is 6'3" and sprawls. No way could the two of us sleep in a small double, a normal double is bad enough. I think the small double would be okay for a guest room for occasional use but I doubt it would that good for day to day use.

Comfy bed would be my priority too, and TBH, I find a normal double too small these days [blush], but then I'm 5'7" and H is 6'4", so he takes up quite a bit of space ?.

Well i am 5'7 and about 9 stone and OH is 5'10 and around 12 stone so i think your right we should probably go for a normal double.

Dam our bedroom for being so small!

I am going to get a storgage bed though so we can do away with our chest of drawers so that should help out

    thanks for your replies?

Definitely go for a normal double. We just moved in with Mum whilst we wait for our house to be built and we're now sleeping in a small double. Mum didn't tell us it was a small double. I only know because we both felt cramped so I measured it! I'm 5'5" and 10st, H is 5'8" and 11st.

Another vote for going as big as possible. We have a 5'4'' (160 cm) and that is my minimum for H and I - we are only 5'8'' and 5'10, but I am not a little'un. To get a comfy bed in our small bedroom we have no bedside table and have very limited space. It is worth it though. Go for a low bed as it gives the feeling of space ...
