Bedroom Blinds

happy_feet, 11 September, 2012 at 18:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

We are just about to finish our bedrrom and are intending to replace our curtains with blinds. Just wondered if anyone had these and if they would recommend a type of blind or ones to stay away from. We are thinking Roman or Venetian, but are these dark enough for a bedroom?

Sorry very boring topic, but its hard to find recommendations on the net!

I cant think what theyre called - theyre the ones that are like loads of horizontal slats which you twist shut. These are awful. We had them in our bedroom and they let in soooo much light. I never really noticed how bad until we put curtains in! There not so bad in the winter with the dark nights/mornings - but summer was the reason we changed.

Roller blinds though, well anything thats solid fabric without gaps - as long as it states 'black out' and you have them inside the window so when rolled down they sit on the window sill, not hanging over, are really good.

I have wooden Venetian ones and I love them. I may be off but online of like the fact that the room's not too dark when I wake up?

Blackout roller blind for me, wouldn't have anything else. I like the room pitch black when I shut it.

I always find blinds let light in round the edges and end up with curtains as well. Make sure that if you get ones with a cord you fit the safety device for the cord too as you are having a baby

We have Venetian wooden slatted blinds in all our windows. I tilt them upwards so people can't see in but you still get a glow of light in the morning, it helps me to wake up!!

We have cream roller blinds on all of the front windows Pulled only 1/3 of the way down so it's all uniform with curtains for night time and privacy. One of our Kitchen blinds is wooden slats and it is a dust trap and a pain to keep clean.

Thanks for the advice ladies, we've orderd 2 roman black out blinds as we like it quite dark in the morning, only 2 small windows and got them custom made so hopefully the light spill wont be too bad!

Me too! I love Venetians. They look sooooo much prettier than fabric blinds.

This was my room this morning at 8am with bright sunshine directly at the window...

Light dusting with a feather duster every week keeps them clean with a proper wipe down every so often...
