Bedrooms....

Sunset21, 14 July, 2009 at 11:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 27

We're bored of our bedroom decor. It's a very light terracotta, it's not a patterned paper and it has a slight texture so we're hoping to paint it but no idea what colours. Do you tend to find the duvet set first and then work around that or vice versa? The carpet is a natural carpet so doesn't really limit us although we do have beech wardrobes etc. which i'd love to ditch but can't because we can't really afford to replace them at the minute.

What are your bedrooms like?

That's lovely, it's a cosy type bedroom. I'm not sure if I want warm colours and go for a cosy look or fresh colours and have a more relaxing feel about it IYSWIM

We have a cream iron bedstead which I guess rules out crisp white. Maybe we should just go for light cream and then we can put anything with it.

I quite like the idea of a pale cream with a pale wedgewood type blue, that would be quite light and airy and peaceful I reckon.

Thats what we've done in our bedroom. 3 walls are painted a lovely blue and one wall (where the head of the bed is) we've wallpapered a modern floral blue. Its really cool and relaxing. Most of our bedding is white.

This is the only pic of my room I have, doesn't show much but think you can get the idea.

We have white walls, oak slatted fitted wardrobes, chunky oak bed and soon to have a biscuit coloured carpet. Wall lights are silver and TV is silver. Dark brown curtains. I have grey / silver, dark brown, coffee and white duvet sets.

It's really fresh and crisp feeling.

Funny you mention blue, I saw this and thought it was fresh looking but it's more white and blue than cream and blue

    https://www.next.co.uk/shopping/homeware/bedroom/52/

I also like the lime/sage/white on the following page but we got rid of lime green when we moved in so i'm not sure i'm keen to repeat it, even if the bedding etc. is a lot different to the original look which was just vile.

KB3, we have chocolate and cream bedding/curtains now, i'd like to move away from it though. I really like the blinds you have Chicken, we have dark wood ones in MissSun's old nursery but they really gather dust. They're a great alternative to bothering with curtains though and would open the room up I think. Hmmm, that's a thought. I really love the mirrored furniture that's about at the moment but I bet it gathers the dust like nobody's business.

I guess ours is quite boring - its all painted a creamy colour, with very pale cream carpet but the focal point is the fireplace, and above it we have a big blue canvas print (which I adore)

I'll see if I can find a pic

I have recently done my bedroom - 3 walls in a chalky white, one wall in Farrow & Ball's 'Borrowed Light' which is a pale sludgy blue. I have wooden floor and pine/pale wood furniture with a brass bed and I always have white bedding. I am really into the whole New England/Scandanavian light and airy look these days and it's lovely and fresh in a bedroom.

But if we were to go down that route we'd have to replace the furniture for something like this

and like I say, no money 🥱

Sunset, could you paint your current bedroom furniture a pale cream to match?

Ours is black/white and grey. We chose the colour and then have just bought white bedding.

One wall is papered and the others painted grey - sorry, only have this rubbish photo!

We've had a variation on cream, eau de nil and chocolate browns and beiges for a while now. We've got choc brown curtains with an edn pattern, cream carpets and walls (currently, although long term plan is to have this wallpaper on the walls (the ceilings slope, so the walls are only to waist height to avoid overload):

Bedding tends to be cream or white and eau de nil colours with beige and edn cushions.

I don't have any pics of ours but we've painted it in purples, 3 walls in lilac and the wall behind the bed in a much darker shade of the same colour.

We've matched the curtains to the dark paint, and have a white duvet cover with a purple pattern in the same purple as the light walls, fitted sheet and bottom pillow cases are the darker purple IYSWIM? I've also done an acrylic painting in similar colours for above the bed.

Hepburn that sounds rather creative, I quite like the idea of white bedlinen on a dark backdrop, the purple sounds rather sexeh!

Will try and post a pic later, we ummed and ahhed about bed linen and finally decided on the crisp white as it gives the room a kind of hotel room sumptiousness IYSWIM?!

We have a purple set for wash days too but it doesn't work nearly as well.

Shame we have a horrid creamy brown carpet but couldn't afford to change that at the time!

Im just about to redecorate my room, so this thread has come in particularly handy! Im going for Black and White/Cream depending on what wallpaper i find that i like!

I was thinking 1 wall in the black and the other 3 cream, with Black carpet, cream curtains and black and cream bedding, or is that too much?

I wouldn't pick black carpet, surely it'll show all the bits from socks etc? I like the neutral carpet we have throughout the house, it goes with everything.

Black/white/cream sounds nice but no to the carpet i'm afraid.

Thats my only worry tbh, at the moment i have wooden floors, so was looking to perhaps have carpet for a change, but now am swayed by a small(ish) black/cream rug that i think will work alot better!
