Been given a choice of 2 dates which to pick?

shetlandlover, 1 May, 2012 at 22:48 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello, I have been given a choice of dates by the venue I want to use. (Its a civil venue so will be eating there afterwards).

5th October or the 10 November.

The 5th of October would be great but its a Friday and those of my family/friends who work will find it more difficult to attend.

The 10th November is more likely to be dark early and harder to take outside photo's without bad weather.

Or the venue has said they have some Sundays in October, but if there's drinking at the Evening party then many wont be able to come because they will work the next day.

I am very confused.

5th of October - people won't mind booking off a Friday as it means they'll have a long weekend off & they'll be able to drink as Saturday the next day ?

& as you said it is more convenient for you with being able to take pictures later and it not being dark as early!

I'd go with what you want mainly & think of the guests second, as you may end up regretting the decision if you don't do it for yourself!

What time are you thinking about getting married? Even if you get married at 2:00 Civil Ceremonies take 30 mins max usually less and it usually gets dark around 4 so still have 1 and a half hours for photos so i wouldn't rule out the 10th November.

    Thank you,

I will book it tomorrow, you are right more people will be wanting the Friday off than the Monday.

The date I really wanted was the 20th October (our 5 year engagement anniversary but It was already taken). But yes, early October.. Smiley smile Thank you!

Fridays are becoming more and more popular, don't get that much of a discount anymore. We are havin a Friday wedding as we have people from up and down the country coming so they can make a long weekend of it too. Getting very excited now Smiley smile just doing a daily sun dance.

I do think Saturdays are easier for most people, for example if you have teachers among your guestlist they will find it very difficult to take a weekday off.

10/11/12 does sound good too! My friend got married in November last year and it was gorgeous, plenty of time for photos and lots of candles/lights/fireworks at night!

I would go for 10th November. Not only is the date easy to remember 10/11/12, but as stated it is a weekend, and therefore more people will be able to attend without having to book an additional day off work.

Hi, we are getting married on a Saturday but it's a 12.00 wedding. We have friends and family that need to travel up from Essex to N. Yorkshire so will be travelling on the Friday anyway. They are then stopping over till the Sunday/Monday which makes it a full weekend away for them. Most people will book the day off and may prefer the Friday as they have the rest of the weekend to recover ?

I agree with those who said Friday because people don't mind taking Friday off nearly as much as other days of the week and depending who you are inviting to the day part, they will be more than happy to anyway. I was all for going for a Friday rather than a Sat to keep costs down but on visiting venues and getting in the prices, I found that actually, there was no discount to be had and it cost the same! So instead I'm going for the Thurs, the day before Good Friday so people can have an even longer weekend and that week Thurs is the Fri really! ha! x

Personally I would go for the Friday! You still get nice weather sometimes early October, plus Friday weddings are so popular now, unless you are a teacher for example most people will be able to book it off if they have enough notice!
