Been quoted a price for a venue - is it a good price? Help!!

bevacreek, 28 January, 2013 at 11:15 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello All,

I'm fairly new to hitched Smiley smile I got engaged on 22nd December. I've been on a hunt for a venue since and I've been quoted some seriously high prices! So I thought I would ask for some guidance on the quote we have received from our preferred venue...

For the following:

2 x Drinks per person on arrival

Canapes

Wedding Breakfast inc coffee

1/2 bottle of wine per guest

Toast drink

Evening Buffet

Complimentary room for bride and groom

Dance floor

Uplighters

Star Cloth

Total £7885

Is this a good deal?

Thank in advance

x

    Very similar numbers to us.

Personally, I think it doesn't sound bad at all.

But it's all relative - if it's a venue you like, and within budget, than yes, it's a good price.

For a similar amount of food and venue hire, we're paying about £11.5k - which is an awful lot, but it's in a venue we absolutely adore, and was what we had budgeted for that part of the wedding. So although it's a lot of money, we think it's a good price, because to us, it's worth it IYSWIM?

I'd say yes, a very good price (depending on the venue).

Pends how much you love the place? We've been quoted £4500 for the same as you but 42 day guests and 100 evening. Also includes the ceremony for me, toast master and dj. X

We do love the venue but it isn't our first choice. The one we fell in love with is £15,000 for the same thing and we just can't afford it Smiley sad

This is a good second choice though, I've just got myself all confused over whether it is a good price. I don't just want to go for this venue because it is cheaper!!

It's Thornton Hall Hotel on the Wirral - so its a nice popular venue still Smiley smile

It really depends on the venue. We're getting the same except for the room for bride and groom, canapes and uplighters for £2000 but our venue isn't very posh! A friend of mine had a similar package and paid over £15,000 so if you like the venue then it seems like a good deal.

I think it also depends on when.

Thats a fair bit more than we are paying for pretty much the same package. BUT, we are getting married on a Thursday in March. If we wanted to get married on a Saturday in HIgh Season then it probably would be costing us another £3000.

This is for a Saturday in June - the venue goes by minimum spend so with our numbers it wouldn't really matter which day as we're over the min spend anyway.

To be honest this is one of the cheapest we've looked at in our area - turns out where I live they like to charge the big books!

I think that sounds like a very good deal. If you like the venue and think they'll do a good job, I'd go for it! Smiley smile

    Looks lovely by the way!

Keep shopping around and get quotes from a few different venues, that way you'll be able to compare and know if its a good deal. I'm about £7k for 100 day guests includes a DJ, evening buffet, table decorations etc.

I think it sounds pretty good, particularly for a Saturday in June.

Check whether it includes VAT though - VAT is the killer!
