been robbed- sort of update Pg 3

Kjay, 27 June, 2013 at 23:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 64

Don't know when or how much either.

We have been saving in one of those big tins, the ones you can only open with tin opener, pounds, two pounds and probably a bunch of notes and it has gone- vanished off the shelf where it normally is.

We have searched the house- though me and boyo have no reason to move the thing- it is heavy been saving in it for 18 frigging months.

We had friends round Saturday for pissup and bbq- have text to see if anyone remembers seeing it, I am pretty sure I put in to it on Thursday, no one remembers and in pictures someone is always in the way of the shelves.

Trouble is I am a idiot who leaves the back door open all the time when I am in so the bloody rabbit can get in and out so all we can think is someone has snuck in when I have been in the shower or something. I feel so sick. we have a gated ally way on our street but I know full well people leave them open I just never imagined some twunt would come in to the house. It has to be when I have been in cause all other times we have an alarm on, even when we are in bed.

Oh and on Tuesday I couldn't find the tin opener but put this down to usual kitchen sloppiness.

Nothing can be done, I was so looking forward to counting out the money, seeing what we had and what we fancied treating ourselves to seems as all the savings this year have been for the wedding.

God I feel like shite

I would rather they took my laptop or phone or something I just wish I knew what happened, it is going to f*ck my head up for ages now.

Sorry to rant but nothing like this has ever happened before and I can't sleep.

ETA

Their is still a nagging doubt in my head that I have put it somewhere in a moment of madness but we have turned the house upside down looking Smiley sad

Oh no! You poor thing. It must be terrifying to think somebody has been in your house whilst you were in another room!

Fingers crossed it is something innocent and that you find out you put it in the fridge whilst drunk or something.

With regards to keeping the door open for the rabbit, could you train him/her to use a cat flap?

If its a tin that you can only open with a tin opener I am assuming you cant see the money inside it? Or is it obvious from the outside? (I have visions in my head of one of those bake bean type money can things?)

Therefore if a stranger 'burgled' your house would they know there was money in it or where to look for it.

OH NO - rubbish Smiley sad

Right, are you sure the tin opener is gone too? Surely if someone had come in and stolen the tin they would have then stuck around looking in your kitchen drawers for the tin opener? Are you sure that one of your friends isn't taking the mick and a picture of the tin and tin opener could appear on FB along with a ransom?! (ok maybe that's far off the mark?)

    Like this,

Funky that's what is fucking me up and with the tin opener gone too.

It would be obvious it is a money box and especially once you felt the weight I could only just lift it with one hand

it wasn't in a prime location tho, bottom of a book shelf that is in the space under the stairs

I hope to god it wasn't one of our friends Smiley sad

Tin opener lives in utensils pot on the work top Smiley sad have been looking for that since Tuesday

And you know I don't do facebook!

I wish it does turn out to be a joke but we text everyone from the weekend to see if they recall seeing it but no one does and they all seemed gutted for us.

Now this to me screams teenage/child robbery....On the basis that I am sure every adult would own a tin opener and therefore not risk spending extra time in a house looking for one.

Where as teenager/child would have to sneak one from his/her parents kitchen and run the risk of exposing what they were doing to their parents and they probably had a gang of mates waiting look out for their share.

I know you don't, but maybe your OH does? I'd text everyone who was there saying since none of them know anything about it then it must have been an intruder so you are reporting it to the police. Hopefully that may make them fess up if they took it as a 'joke'

Have you searched the house completely - even the stupid, it couldn't even fit in there places?

    Thanks all,

I know what you mean funky that's why I thought why would our mates take the opener too?

I finish work at midday today so the house is getting another major search- ATB (boyo isn't on facebook either!)

Bill- I know if it were an opportunist when I was in chances are my phone, laptop, handbag would all be in plain view too Smiley sad would rather they had gone missing, leat I know the value of those things and have less sentiment toward them, cant believe I am soppy about a savings tin!

Thanks all for your ideas on it, will text everyone again today, (was only me, boyo and 3 other couples)

My brain is in overdrive as to where it could have ended up thankfull for my short shift today!

Oh that's so crappy. I really hope it's just a prank on one of your friends parts and not something worse.

Have you contacted the police? If you don't find it then perhaps that's a good idea?

have a non fluffy hug, I really feel for you.

This is horrible, sorry to hear it. There's something not quite gelling about the premise of a mate dragging it out without you knowing. Equally, why would a stranger ignore handbags etc? Fingers crossed it's in the airing cupboard.

    Thanks again folks.

I am really stumped about the whole thing.

it isn't like it is in a prime location to spot but if it caught the eye and they felt the weight of it why go for anything else, especially things that could be traced.

Having an awful morning at work too, suicide this morning again so everything is tits up! (not my train but the impact had been fairly catastrophic)

Things can only get better right!

Bloody hell I hate stuff like this :-( I hate to say it but it sounds like a friend who visited did something. Could they have hid it somewhere?

If someone came into the house then they must have been pretty confident to walk past all the electronic equipment to find the cash. Could someone have heard the shower on? Still seems odd though and more like someone who had been in the house for a while and seen it.

We live in a row of terraces from the ally you could probably hear the water yes.

I can't shake this image of some scumbag creeping in while I was upstairs.

The middle room is the first you come to from the kitchen, normally my stuff like laptop etc would be in the front room which is through a set of glass doors, (really old minging ones!) So coming in the dining room from the kitchen you wouldn't see the front room clearly.

One last search when I get in and one, more text to everyone then we're just going to have to put it to bed I think.

I am really grateful for all your replies guys Smiley smile

Hi guys, sorry for not getting back sooner, I finished work a bit late and came straight home for another search to no avail.

I decided to call the Police- they were so helpful and two officers where round within the hour.

I am really glad I phoned as after going through everything with them they told me that a well known (scumbag) person was in Prison for one month and only 1 burglary took place in the whole town (Crewe so not a really tiny town) the whole while he was in Prison and then in the week since he has been out there have been 3 reports and now mine which makes 4. AND it fits in with his style- he goes around trying doors/chancing his luck.

So although chances of ever getting anything back a pretty much zero at least it is on record and fits this waankers profile. The police were really thorough and have gone to check with neighbours on both sides and over the back too on the off chance someone might have been spotted lurking about. They also went through some security stuff and I was quite pleased that other than the fact I left the door open while being at home the only extra security they could suggest was having some lights on timers over the winter!

I have text everyone who was round on Saturday again, to let them know about the police coming round so IF one of them has been playing a ridiculous joke and didn't fess up last night maybe they will now but from what the Police said I am pretty convinced it has been this twunt Smiley sad bet he thought all his Christmases came at one finding my loot Smiley sad

The only slight satisfaction is knowing that my tin opener is particularly shite so it would have been hard to use.

Jojo, I still feel sick at the thought we have lost so much money and all the enjoyment I had filling it (almost) up and shaking the tin like a kid at Christmas makes me feel sad and stupid too. I am pretty sure it must have gone on Monday as I was in all day, the weather was okay (got three loads dry outside) so the back was open all the time for the rabbit and also I did a big clean on Friday and I am fairly sure I would have noticed if it was missing then, and Tuesday was when I tried to find the tin opener for the first time.

I can't believe that I am one of those people saying 'But you never think it will happen to you' Smiley sad it does and it sucks!

Someone mentioned insurance? I will check my excess but I doubt it is worth bothering, we cant prove how much was in the tin and no forced entry has been made at home so I doubt it will be worth putting my future premiums up for.

Oh no that's awful! I am pleased that the police were so helpful though, it kind of restores your faith in them. And at least you don't have that horrid feeling of it being one of your mates.

You are not sad shaking it etc, we have a tin too which we used to use for beer at festivals (baby stuff this year) but I would be gutted to lose it as it mounts up and it's funny counting it at various points and being amazed by how much is in there and planning the spend. You poor thing.

I will say it may not be worth the insurance thing, it might affect your premium but it's worth finding out. Maybe it's time to train the house rabbit up in a bit of kung foo?

See what you mean about the house insurance. What an arse.
