Caitlin was mediocre when she was at Melody Maker.

    Plus ca change....

Has her moments and was greatly aided by psession of female genitalia and a face that didn't look like a bag of spanners. But Brilliant she has never been.

We'll have to disagree on that as I've always very much enjoyed her writing. I thought this was very funny and perceptive.

There's nowt wrong with it but 'blistering' or 'brilliant' aren't the adjectives that would spring to mind.

Stating the obvious would be my take, but then maybe I'm missing the irony... I do that sometimes.

She's not a bad spud and she was something of a prodigy, just don't think she's grown up much.

Mind you... I might not say no to a column on the thunderer meself.

Stating the obvious? How truly appalling.

    Cait gets paid.

And I was trying to make a point, probably not that well....

It's fine to look at Palin from 'our' P.O.V and mock her... But how does it resonate with x million Americans with a basic education and a belief in "Mom, God & Apple Pie"?

GWB during his debates talked about prople disparaging him on "The Internets". He was widely mocked for it (on said internets) but I thought it was a stroke of genius (by his script writer).

Yes, but do you think that anyone contributing to that particular thread was actually unaware of that? I mean, seriously?

Not bringing up a point doesn't necessarily mean that it's being missed - it could just be too glaringly decked out in flashing neon to actually need highlighting.

    Being honest?

    Yes.

I think that many Europeans have an attitide of 'how can people wote for her when she says...."X"'

When saying "X" is exactly why people vote for her.

So do I and have been known to use it.

Only on the wee grey invaders though.

My parents have a Canadian cookery book that includes squirrel recipes, though they pale beside the likes of Jellied Moose Nose and Seal Brain Fritters.

I've never tried it, although the same cookbook has a recipe for possum as well. Also never tried, but then, we don't have possums around here the way we have squirrels everywhere.

Hmm. I might try Jellied Moose Nose or Seal Brain Fritters if I had the chance. Very exotic! I've only really had venison and bear, game-wise.

Waaaaa - I just spoke to my mother on the phone, she was just cooking a cake because it was geting too expensive to buy them in waitrose. I should forward her that article ?

(to be fair, she used to bake a lot when we were younger, and does make a mean cake or two (or more, she has tonnes of fab cake recipes))

Heaven forbid I should ever agree with ONE about anything, but was it really that great an article ?

    Maybe I just didn't get it ?

That's probably because (like Jamie Oliver) I'm one of those middle class meddlers that believes many of "the poor" wouldn't be half as hard up if they stopped buying eight-ring hobs, flat screen TVs and enormous gold chains.

Agreeing with ONE and JO ? I think I must be coming down with something ?

I must admit I had a bit of a Heathrow moment there too. I didn't think it was all that funny.

The rest of the article doesn't do it for me, but I love this :

A message from Downing Street said: ‘Start eating squirrels. Love, Gordon Brown'.”

ONE, stating the absolutely bleeding obvious in some dramatic, 'I am the only who can cut the crap and see the truth' style is very much your thing.
At least this woman TRIES to inject a little humour
