Belated Hello Post

MrsToffee, 29 October, 2013 at 23:23 Posted on Planning 0 8

Having seen lots of 'Hello I'm new' posts I feel like I've missed out on doing one so here it is!

Hello! H2B (L) and I have been together for nearly 11 years; we met when I was 14 and he was 15; we didn't get together until a year later but have been together ever since. It took us a long time to really progress into a 'grown up' relationship as I took ages deciding whether or not to go to uni then when I did I stayed living with my parents so we only moved in together about 18 months ago. We went on an anniversary trip to Cologne last year (10years) and I had built my hopes up that he'd pop the quesiton when we were there but nothing; I then thought 'Maybe our first Christmas living together' but again nothing! Then we decided to save up for a deposit on a house and I thought it'd be a while before he ever even thought about getting married just because of the expense. But then L suggested in January of this year that we go on a last blow-out holiday before getting a mortgage. So we went to book and decided on the Maldives and went in August. Just because of how much L wanted a big holiday made me think something was up but I just thought that perhaps he might have thought about proposing then not got round to getting a ring or something or that it was just me being wishful again!

Well, in the first couple of days of the holiday I suggested that we should go down to the beach to watch the sunset but L didn't seem fussed until the 3rd day when he suggested it. So we set off down the beach to a quiet bit and sat on a sunbed watching the sun. We were talking about what a lovely time we were having and just generally being soppy when a man wearing speedos walked past taking photos! After he'd moved on we were talking again and it was then that L got down on one knee. I immediately gave him a big hug before he had even had a chance to say anything, then he asked and I said yes!

We've now booked our venue and the registrar, chosen our tog although not booked yet and I've tried on a couple of dresses. I know what I want in terms of decoration (L is leaving that to me so will be sparkly and a bit vintage-glam) and L knows what he wants in terms of food so it's all go!

Aww lovely proposal story! I feel I know you already from some of your posts but hello and welcome! Theme sounds great so far and food was important to my Husband too as he's of Jamaican decent and we wanted West Indian food. Went down very well with the guests (apart from my Nan who wanted 'normal' chicken haha).

    Hello and Welcome!!

This part made me laugh. I spent 2 years thinking H2B was going to pop the question at any time. When I announced I was pregnant, our first Christmas (yes, I managed to fall pregnant even before that!), our first anniversary, my birthday, the birth of our baby. Nope, nothing! He then took me to see Eric Clapton on Valentines day, nothing!, 2nd anniversary, nothing. We went to see Guns n Roses, my all time favourite band, he knew how much I loved November Rain and had told him that one day I wanted to walk down the aisle to it. I thought it was OBVIOUS he should propose then. Two months before our 3rd anniversary I told him he had to make an honest woman of me before our little one went to school so I had the same surname. He said "that's only two years away, I was thinking 3 years". I asked if that meant we could get engaged and he offered me his bank card to find a ring!

At least you got your romantic proposal in the end! Look forward to seeing all your plans coming together.

Congratulations to the two of you and I enjoyed reading your proposal story so much it has inspired me to share my own. I love it when couples have been together since being young I find that very sweet. You're obviously meant for each other :-)

Aw is so nice to see couples breaking the decade anniversaries!

And these boys really have a way of surprising us when we least expect, good on them! =)

I've found the story with the men in speedos quite giggly, hehe. Just precious!

You seem to have done good progress already, so let us know what we can help with.

    Congratulations, and welcome to hitched!

Thanks all; I love that we've been together so long but have had to put up with a fair few people telling me even fairly recently that I can't know he's 'the one' seeing as I've never been with anyone else! Will definitely be on here asking lots of advice soon!
