Big Chests - Help!

2013_Bride_, 25 February, 2013 at 10:01 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi,

3 of my Bridesmaids are quite big chested.

Is there any dress designs you think I should be looking specifically at?

I've been looking at Alfred Sung dresses, with straps, for them.

Its hard though as I don't personally have to work around my chest and I'm struggling to fully understand what I need to work around for them, other than no low cut and bra friendly.

Looking at the following styles (sorry, it won't let me flash?): D588, D494, D530, D570, D597.

I'm putting them in different dresses so need to make sure I have at least 3 out of those selections that will suit them!

Really appreciate any help, Thanks :-) x

Are you putting them in three different dresses but they all need to have straps?

I have a large chest and where as I'd not ever wear a strapless dress or bra normally, I find bridesmaid dresses have more support, enabling me to wear a strapless dress more comfortably. One of the two with the smaller chest (certainly a D cup) may find a strapless dress is suitable.

For the one with the very large chest, something V-neck will be flattering. Certainly nothing too high necked, and no spagetti straps for any of them, doubt that would be comfortable or flattering.

I am a 38F and wore a one shoulder bridesmaid dress recently, it was very supportive and I wore a strapless bra with one strap on (but quite loose so not to have one boob higher than the other) for a bit of security.

Could you look to see what style of dress each girl has chosen for herself to wear for special events in the past, may give you an idea of what style they like, or ask them!

I'm a 38G / 40FF depending on where I shop, and have real problems buying dresses because of this!

DEFINITELY bra friendly! OK, you can get strapless bras, but I've never found one which makes me feel 100% secure, plus they tend to make my bazooms look kinda flat (as they don't have the gravity defying straps helping them up!)

Also, make sure that the bra can't be seen under the arms- I quite often have this problem; it's hard to explain, but the dress fits fine at the front (around the boobal region) but cuts quite low under the arms so that the side of the bra can be seen under your armpit! REALLY annoying.

Also, don't automatically assume that empire line is flattering on bigger busts; sometimes this can give a sort of tent look, ie. the dress fits fine over the boobs but then just hangs from the most protruberent point down, making you look like rent-a-tent! Also, empire lines can sit across the boobs, rather than underneath, if they don't fit properly, which is definitely NOT a flattering look!

Cowl necklines (I think) are the most flattering for larger busts, but not always easy to get hold of.

Things like wrap dresses, etc. be careful with- again, it's often said that they flatter larger busts but in my experience they just show off your bra to the world when you turn to the side! Easy to 'pop out' of.

I find this sorta thing the most flattering (but not necessarily this colour...!). Anything which is generous around the boobs but cinches in at the waist is a winner.

I have a similar situation as all my bridesmaids are tiny but with massive chests lol it has been suggested to me to get bridesmaids dresses that have a corset back so you can get the size that they normally are but have a bit of room at the top to 'cater' for the big busted.

Also i think this is a great idea because if they lose or gain a few pounds, there's not a mad rush at the end to get them altered lol

As regards for strapless bras...the corset will give some support and a lady at a bridal shop recently said that many brides recommend the strapless wonderbra especially if you are larger busted.

    Hope this helps! ?

    Hi there,

I'm not sure what your theme is but I have seen some lovely 50's tea dresses that have a halterneck, I can't remember what website they are on but if you do a general search then you should get the idea. Both my BM's are short blonde and very busty (think Dolly Parton!), and they both love this style. I would also agree that certain BM dresses have far more structure tha normal dresses, I think I wore an Alfred Angelo style a few years back and was able (and happy) to wear it strapless, and I'm a 32G.

I know that you are saying you already have too many options to think about, but if you want all your BM's to be happy and comfortable for the entire day, then you should ask them what they would prefer.

    Hope that helps,

    M x

I have a freakishly big chest (40JJ) and it's an absolute nightmare finding flattering clothes.

Buying bras is a nightmare, as in this size they tend to be grannyish and of industrial strength - more scaffolding than lingerie! Bear this in mind when looking at any type of dress - a pretty strappy dress won't look so pretty with massive white bra straps poking out.

I wear a lot of tight / fitted clothes, sinched in at the waist to give me an hourglass figure. As skeptical said, if you don't you end up looking massive. I could never ever go without a bra and would feel mortified/ embarassed if asked to.

My wedding dress is a 50s style halterneck, but I am wearing a bolero with it, so this might be an option. I think 50s styles suit the bigger bust more, and transform me from feeling like a heavy frumpy elephant to an instant voluptous vixen Smiley smile
