big dress?

MrsLoftus2be, 8 August, 2010 at 15:57 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi Ladies i wondered if you could help me, ive tried LOADS of dresses on all over the place and found 2 yesterday that i LOVE! The problem is my favourite is a big dress, i never thought about trying one of these on but as i was getting really down about not finding 'the dress' i thought i should try different styles of dresses. I love the dress but think people might think i look like a jordan wonnabe or one of those of the gypsey wedding program lol. If i was getting married in a massive castle and having a huge expensive do i wouldnt think twice about buying the dress, it did make me feel like a princess but im having a meaningful less OTT wedding thats means more (church i was christened in etc) and think i may look out of place in a big dress?? i'll upload the picture of the dress, my church, and our reception venue so you can see what they look like. please give honest opinions. P.S you cant tell on the pic of the dress but it does actually have diamontes all over the dress and it seemed to look bigger than what it does in the pics, oh and id also take that flower off.

Thanks in advance a confused b2b. lol

I love big dresses and I'm of the view that if you can't wear one for your wedding, then when can you?

Honestly, if you love the dress it will show when you're wearing it and that's the most important thing.

The one you've put a pic of is beautiful and I don't think you could call it Jordan-esque - it's big but not too big and probably only feels or seems much bigger, because of its size in comparison to what you'd normally wear Smiley smile

I've tried this dress twice and I love the dress so much - felt like a princess in it. I've just commtned on MRS Greatbatch2b's post as its on her short list too.

I am tiny - 5" and quite petite and literally when i raised my arms the dress was wider than my arm span. If I am completely honest - I adore it - and if it was just me and OH in an empty field type ceremoney id have it. BUT for a church wedding (thats what we are having) I do think it is a bit gyspy weddingy (sorry - and remember thats based on me wearing it, it might not swamp you as much). I know id struggle to get down the aisle and it's very heavy. And OH wouldnt be able to get within a foot of me!

Sorry i'm not sure thats the right answer but its my opinion

If it suits you and you love it whats the problem? It is your day at the end of it - you dont want to settle for a dress because it fits in more with the day its self. I say go for it! Im sure whatever you choose your H2B will be blown away!!

I toatally agree with the above statement!

It's beautiful of course you can wear it for your wedding!!!

Why should your dress be small just because you are having a less OTT wedding??? IT'S YOUR WEDDING!!!!! lol

If you love it get it or you will end up regretting it

Good Luck with whatever your choice is

    xx

I think I'll end up going for a dress that is 'big'.. Not only cos I'm a fatty (Lol) but cos I wanna feel and look like a princess - I'm doing the whole Castle wedding so hopefully I can pull it off lol.

It really isn't gypsy wedding style, they go much bigger, and much brighter..

    Think bigger AND tackier -

I love the slinky grecian style dresses but they are just not me... my dress is all big and pouffy!!! I don't care if I don't fit down the aisle!!!

If i were aiming to wear a dress like that I'd ask myself the following

can I move around the house once I'm dressed?

can I go to the bathroom?

Can I get down the aisle?

How will I get into the car?

Can I dance with this on?

Can I get close to my husband?

Can I get close enough to the table during the meal?

Can I walk through the reception venue?

Can I wear this weight on my hips for 12 hours and walk up and down stairs?

once I've answered those, then I'll decide.....

Thank you all for your opinions, the dress doesnt look too big on me im 5'9'' and a size 10-12, so i can carry dresses without looking 'swamped' cause of my height. but its just a lot bigger than anything i've tried in the past hence why it felt so big, my old fave was this:

which as you can see is very fitted, as have all the other dresses been that ive tried on but since i tried this one on i loved it and the mori lee went out of the picture. my 2nd favourite is maggie sottero dominique and in the shop i liked the dresses equally but obviously they are very different dresses, however since ive been home i just cant stop thinking about the RJ! more so than the MS. below is MS dominique, i would have it in white.

Ssssh but i too am wearing a Big dress and i am only 5ft2 but i am really busty and telling myself i need alot of skirt to balance out the boobs! I too am having a low key church wedding followed but a reception in our village hall. I think my friends will be rather suprised as i am not very girly. I say its your day do it your way! I got the one feeling with my dress and then there was no other dress for me! and it sounds like you are feeling the same way! - Go for it if you want it and can afford it!

    Hi!

I think you should wear what you think that fits you the best! Yes, you had an imagination about your dress, but if you feel better in this big dress, you should wear it! ?

I also like princess dresses? Good luck!

Im glad you started this thread and was in exact same boat, I am 5ft 2in have big bust, and always dreamed of the big dress but thought I looked swamped being short, so I looked around tried on loads and found three that I thought were really nice

Until I came accross hollywood dreams website, and seen all there dresses were amazing I loved the big skirts, but they also had some smaller styles so thought I find a stockist and try some one, I told the lady at the shop of my dream bid dress but as so many had told me knew I was to short, she said not at all it all depends on the shape of the bodice where the skirt goes out from, ie straight out from the hips or gradually etc she said just try this dress, she pulled out hollywood odette I seen it hung up thought nice but to much until I tried it on ........now I just paid for it!!! lol plus I could move around no problems and its sooo light and airy lol

So I say go for what makes you feel the most AMAZING!! my church is tiny and im having my reception in a botique hotel with only 10 rooms. but my dress made me feel like a million bucks and that I think is how every bride should feel when they put that all important dress on!! plus I can image the venue having a group photo at the front with you in that dress! perfect!

Just go for what makes you the happiest hun! its supposed to be the best day of your life and the best dress you ever wear! DO IT DO IT DO IT (my dress is in my planning so you see what I mean its pretty big lol) xxxxx

I have tried your dress on but like Kayl i also found it difficult to walk in. With my arms out stretched the dress was still wider! It is a beautiful dress though and if you are comfy in it then go for it!

Its your day and you only get to wear your dream dress once Smiley smile

    xx

    The dress is gorgeous.

Your church and your venue both look very nice to me. I think you should definately go for the big dress. If it is the dress that you love... don't worry about what other people think.

I doubt very much that people will be thinking bad things about the dress.
