*Big Flash* 5 1/2 months to go - what we've got so far & advice needed

Daisy Bell, 3 March, 2015 at 12:43 Posted on Planning 0 16

We've been engaged 5 weeks now and we've managed to book/organise a few big things already for our 24 August wedding.

Our venue

The room for our wedding breakfast:

We will be having our ceremony outside in good weather, or in the above room if it rains.

Secret garden where we'll be having our ceremony and drinks reception if it's nice (there are four of these gardens in total, so we could use different ones for ceremony & drinks reception)

Some more images:

My dress, shoes & jewellery

Our rings

Save the Dates

I've ordered our Save the Dates, which we will send out next week because we will most likely need a couple more months before we will have the invitations ready. I went with something quite neutral as we haven't decided on colours & theme yet.

So we've got a few things sorted already but loads more to go. I am in touch with a celebrant and photographer, but not booked either yet.

What I am absolutely clueless about is colours & theme for our wedding. I am not having any bridesmaids, but I need to decide on a theme for invitations, cake, flowers and decorations.

My OH's aunts are making our invitations & cake and they keep asking via my FMIL whether I've decided on colours or a theme yet ... But the truth is, I haven't even got a clue!

In terms of colours, I could picture a light pink (in combination with ivory / cream), or a shade of purple or blue (that narrows it down, haha!) - or we could simply stick with ivory and cream colours.

I suppose what with my dress being quite elegant, I would want the theme matching that.

How would you decorate the room we will have? I love that it is so bright and flooded with light (hoping for sunshine on our wedding day as well). We will have a very small wedding with about 12-14 guests and we will have one long table.

Does anyone have any ideas or tips for me please? I am completely stumped but I feel like I need to make a decision soon because I need to give my OH's aunt time to make the invitations.

Looking forward to all your suggestions!

Sooo pretty! Love your headband and venue! With regards to the colour scheme, I think you could go with pretty much anything. Have you had a look at ideas on pintrest etc so see if there are any that catch your eye? It may be worth narrowing it down so whether your want something fairly bold (eg Cadbury purple) or something a bit more subtle (pastels etc) and go from there?

What a gorgeous venue! I can't believe you've only been engaged 5 weeks, that is impressive organisation!

I no advice on colours or anything, I would be inclined to stick to creams and Ivory as its so elegant but it's purely my taste. Definitely look at Pinterest for colour inspiration, I love it.

Cannot wait for this report! it's going to be one stunning wedding!!

for some reason your dress and jewellery are screaming 'peach' decor to me. i think it would suit well and bring freshness yet warmth. first and foremost- what does the venue allow in the way of decor? are you allowed hanging stuff for example?

Your venue is stunning!!! And I like those shoes now seeing them from tnis angle. They have a nice wedge heel and are fab.

Colours, you really could have anything. What tie will your OH be wearing as that could be a good guide.

Thanks ladies! You are too kind! I am so happy with the venue we chose but we were so spoiled for choice, Edinburgh and East Lothian have some stunning venues, we practically liked all of the ones we looked at! I am also so happy we will be close enough to the beach to go there for some pictures after the ceremony!

Thanks, the wedge heel was one of the reasons I decided on these shoes (the others were flats), as I don't normally wear heels because they get uncomfortable very quickly for me. Hope the wedge heel will be comfortable for a couple of hours at least and help me walk a bit more like a lady. Smiley winking I am not sure about his tie, I assumed we would be matching his tie to our colour, I think he will be hiring a suit so it could probably be any colour we want.

All looks lovely. The red chairs in the reception room are really nice so you could maybe think about incorporating these into your colour scheme. I'm a big fan of mostly white/cream with hints of colour so you could have hints of red?

Beautiful, love your venue! Can't wait to see the report Smiley smile

Colours, I think you'd be fine to stick with neutrals as you say. Perhaps a dusky pink amongst creams, ivory I personally think would work well

Wow 5 weeks I'm impressed. It took me two years to get started. Your hair piece is beautiful. I saw the same one today and tried it on (ended up buying a different one though). The picture just doesn't do it justice xxx

With a venue like that, I would use the garden surroundings for inspiration. I would choose green shades and have green and ivory centrepieces etc and would try to tie the flowers and style with things found in the area you are having the ceremony and drinks.

Using the gardens as inspiration is a great idea, thanks!
