Birdcage veils - reasonably priced - where from?!

50's pin up bride, 11 November, 2011 at 11:22 Posted on Planning 0 7

I know almost exactly what I want, but I can't seem to find it - or at least not at a reasonable price. Hitchers, please help me!

I want a headband - I don't mind whether it is silver or ribbon-covered. I want a side-mounted flower in ivory, preferably a rose or rose-like, as I have roses mounted onto my dress and an ivory rose bouquet. I want feathers around the rose - not 'fluffy' ones, the long slender ones or the ones with a thin stalk and then refined feather or a mix of those. I want some bling in there somewhere - crystals in the rose or on jewellery wire.

I've seen a handful of 'nearly right' ones online, some at reasonable prices, some extortionate. They all seem to be extorionate within the bridal shops. I've just had a consultation with a lady that makes beautiful jewellery at reasonable prices, and having seen the prices of some of her fascinators that include veiling I thought it would be affordable (many were about £30) and then for a bridal one she wanted £70! I know that's often reflected within the shops, but it seems bridal = £££ for something that, in another colour for a prom, would not be £££. Gah!

So, any ideas? Cheaper bespoke recommendations?

I'm getting to the point when I'm seriously contemplating just having a go myself (I make jewellery as a hobby and used to make leatherwork from scratch as a living, including Swarovski encrusted dog collars, so have *some* of the skills needed but admittedly not all) but I'm not 100% sure where to start.

Thank you - no evidence on the website of her doing the kind of think I'm looking for (mine needs ore emphasis on the fascinator element with the veil on there too) but I've emailed her just in case ?

    Hey ladies!

Thank you for the recommendation. By the sound of it you want something similar to what I made for this bride (but she had fluffy feathers ?)

The above was roses, but this bridesmaid for another client wanted a lily.....

To be honest I won't display my items in bridal shops. As when I first started I did, but then realised that the shops were adding a 150 - 200% mark up depending on what they could get away with.

Feel free to drop me an email at ****@****************.***

50's pin up / vintage is exactly what i am going for and had same problem, found a supplier on Etsy called Velvet Owl, she bespoke makes cage veils, thought she is in Germany, the headpieces and shipping still comes to less than some of the ones i have been looking at!

    Hope this helps. x
