Birmhingham dress lady...

izzy_on_the_rocks, 14 March, 2011 at 21:26 Posted on Planning 0 25

Well Hitchers, I was going to go high street but after reading all the fab reviews a lot of you guys have written and having seen her prices - I think just maybe I shall treat my bridesmaids!

That said...anybody got anything bad to say about this option..

Also, does/did anybody order a dress from her in a purple or aubergine shade?

Muchos thanks

    The purple is lovley!

Well I sent back a dress becuase it was too small - she said she would correct it, and then didnt and sent the dress back in what I sent in to her, yet took the measurements out and the extra money I had to include so she wouldn't have to refund me and then me pay out again.

She has no idea where the dress she is supposed to be making is, and it's stressing me out!

    Other than that shes great

Oh, that's not good. I'd just made my mind up to go with her. Would you two lovely ladies mind telling me what was wrong with your orders?

Aww *hugs* try not to let it worry you TOO much Hannah, I'm sure it will be ok - you could always rally the BMs together and storm the shop if you live within travelling distance. Sometimes easier to sort things out in person as opposed to phone/email.

Hmm maybe I should rethink my choice!

Hehe..nothing more dangerous than a bride on the warpath ?

Hmm may have a rethink OR order a purple off the peg. Or may have to move my butt and go looksee at the shop.

Well i ordered 2 normal sizes in 806 from ebay. 7 weeks later they arrived- (quoted 5 weeks)- no communication from her at all of why they were late etc, even after me chasing. then when they finally arrived, both sizes were completly wrong and i had asked for a colour swatch- that wasnt there, and i asked for small straps to be added to both- they werent!

i emailed her straight away- she took 1 week to get back to me- no apology- just saying send them back and she will re do them.

it then took another 3 weeks to get them back. she emailed saying she had dispatched them. i emailed her back to make sure she had put the colour swatch in ( as suppliers were asking for it i needed it asap) she said she had put it in a envelope in the same bag as the dresses.

2 days later the dress appeared. no sign of a colour swatch in it- then the next day a small envelope appeared with the colour swatch- so she hadnt told the truth

completly wouldnt recommend and it upsets me that soo many ppl she got it right with but me she got it completly wrong

I have had a good read through her feedback before ordering - it seems she delivers well on made to measure moreso than on the off he peg sizes - but again that depends on the person measuring themselves properly.

Time does seem to be a common problem, but are you telling me bridal shops don't say the same? Tell you 4 months and it ends up being 5? I think for £50 you are getting a bargain if it works out, and if not, comments on the Feedback indicate they eventually got refunds on any issues.

I contacted her about my daughters flower girl dress but her response was so blunt and unfriendly that I chose not to use her- glad I made that decision now after seeing this post!

I originally wanted a dress from Coast but they sold out almost immediately and I couldn't get the perfect dress anywhere.

I contacted the Birmingham dress lady initially but her communication was awful, said she could commit to my deadline even though I since found out she would be away for the entire time she should be making the dress, and wouldn't send a colour sample out for me. I wasn't confident that she would deliver and I was unable to get all the way up to Birmingham for fittings so would be relying on her. If I had more time I might have persevered.

In the end I went with someone whose communication was much better although the dresses more expensive, this was all fine up until the end and the dress is now with another seamstress being rectified, 4 days before the wedding!!!

It's so hard to find someone you trust and I am glad that a few people have had good experiences, but if I had the time back again I would go into a shop and buy off the peg!

    Sorry!

She was pretty blunt with me but I got the impression it was a language/cultural issue. Her english is very much like the chinese makers on ebay. Not unfriendly but just how they speak english. I may be wrong but thats how she came across to me.

Im sorry but I do feel I have to reply to this and jump to her defense a little bit.

I would never have recommended her on here if I was not 110% happy with what she had made for me. Yes the times were a little bit longer than first stated but she kept me informed all the way along and as Kayl says this also happens in bridal shops!! And if you order in plenty of time then that shouldnt be an issue and any problems can be ironed out.

Also please take in to account we are not paying Bridal shop/Dessy etc dress prices!!

What we need to remember she is only one lady and has been literally inundated (sp) with queries and orders since before Christmas from the lovely ladies on here, as well as running her alterations and Ebay shop!!

As for her being abrupt then please give her a chance as there is definitley a language barrier, as I found her to be really sweet. She sent me an email after she had checked my post on Hitched, saying she was nearly in tears at the kind words people has said about her work.

I am sorry for those who are not entirely happy with her but I have said all along if you keep in contact with her then Id be very surprised if she didnt sort it.

Thats it, my two pennith over lol

Oh and Im not on any commission by the way ?

    xx

    Fluffy

when you ordered from her was it from her ebay shop or was it a made to measure specific dress. I only ask cos i am hoping to order from her but posts like this get me worried.

I cant order until the begining of june when one of my bridesmaids will be back home from work. The dress lady assures me she can do the dress before october but i am very nervous about ordering from her. However i am struggling to find anything i like on the high street.

How did you go about paying for the dresses if you don't mind me asking? did she ask you for payment upfront or did you send a deposit in?

    @ Soon2bmrse

I am ordering mid April for our August wedding. She states that she needs 6 weeks, but from talking to her she expects it to be very busy for her so it might be more like 8. I think 4 months is more than sufficient. That said, if they didn't come in time I wouldn't have any issues trawling the high street for an alternative at short notice.

I payed in advance via paypal, hence was protected should it not be as described etc.

I took a risk and ordered two straight away from her Ebay shop, mainly as she had her address (UK address) and two phone numbers on the listing, which made me feel a bit easier about ordering. I had them made to measure, as i did with the junior bridesmaids (which incidently she made from just a picture and they are superb!!) And I paid in full up front for the first two, but she sent me an invoice for the 4 others just before she sent them. Both times I paid by paypal just to be covered.

When I asked for some colour swatches she was more than obliging and sent them free of charge and within a week.

When I say the timings are sometimes out I mean by a week or two, not by months. June to October should be plenty of time and she will give you a lead time anyway.

I think only a handful of people have had a problem which Im sorry about but as you can tell from the rest more than not have been as delighted in their dresses as I have.

    Hope that helps.

    xxx

As has Fluffy I feel I need to say my bit too ?

After reading Fluffy's original topic when she first got her dresses I decided to order my BM dresses from Huiyunkitty. And I'm so glad I did!

They dresses are of superb quality, fully lined/boned, and just overall fantastic. The first dress was delivered a little later than expected however due to the bad weather we had in Nov/Dec this was completely understandable. My next two dresses arrived within the timescale set.

I do agree that her responses are quite blunt, but over email IMO you can't really judge someone. I have spoken to her on the telephone since and she was really lovely. Admittedly her English isn't 'perfect' but she was far from rude or abrupt.

I took a gamble and was 110% happy with the outcome. Afterall at £32.99 a dress you can't really grumble.

Can I just add - I think you are all right to want to know the details before ordering, so not knocking that, it's just I feel a need to add my comments too IYSWIM?

I ordered my dress on 13th Feb (Sunday) and it arrived last Monday - 8th of March. So in terms of timing, again I am very happy.
