Birmingham Dress Lady (Huiyun Kitty)

Hollie1984, 8 August, 2011 at 19:17 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi

I am looking at using the birmingham dress lady for my bridesmaids dresses.

For those who ordered from her, can you tell me what your experience was like?

I have been emailing her and so far have found it quite hard to get info and am not sure whether to still order.

Did anyone else have problems? Also did any of you have a junior dress made?

Flashes would be great!!

Thanks ?

I'd be interested in some reviews too. Been thinking the same about getting my BM dresses from her. Sent her a message on eBay asking a few questions ... The reply I got was quite baffling, didn't answer any of my questions and didn't relate to anything. I think she most have sent the message to me instead of someone else. But not a good start to business, i'm a bit reluctant to use her now ?

I ordered my 2 BMs and flowergirl's dresses from her. I agree her communication can be dreadful but as I was ordering 'standard' stuff from ebay (I mean I didn't ask her to alter anything etc) I didn't have to communicate too much with her.

I can't fault the dresses, they're lovely and and the little FG's dress is super cute.

There have been people on here who have really had problems with her (panda?) - it's a bit of a mixed bag for reviews on her.

I visited her shop and the staff there were just lovely, communication can be an issue with her but she is incredibly busy, especially from Hitchers Smiley smile

I had a sample dress made for me so I could take a look at her workmanship etc, it only cost £50 and the sample dress that came back was stunning, I have flashed a picture with my sister (CBM) trying it on..

I've read a lot about her on here as I've been thinking about going to her myself. The consensus of opinion seems to be that she's great and the dresses are great if you go to the store. However, because her English isn't that good communicating with her by e-mail is very difficult (I know, I've tried) and I think that orders placed on-line aren't meeting people's exact requirements.

    Hope that helps a bit.

I've used her both for my 3 Bridesmaid dresses and for a ball gown for myself. All 4 dresses were very good. The only thing i would say is that you Will get better results if you pay the extra £10 to have made to measure which i did for all the dresses. As has already been said communication isnt fab but is much better on the phone than via email which bad be very slow. If you bear in mind that it might not be 100% and you might need time for alterations, then you should be good. And also would advise paying on a credit card for protection regarding refunds etc.

I originally ordered my dresses from her online, I asked for a copy of a red one shoulder dress I had seen, approved the colour swatch etc but when they arrived she had done the dress in 2 colours for some reason, the main part of the dress in the colour I'd approved ( a bright red) but the flowers on the one shoulder were done in orange satin and red chiffon which looked hideous, not sure why?? still can't get to grips with that! However, she did refund me in full for these after I returned the dresses back to her, and I ordered them from where I had originally seen them and they are perfect. What I would say is if from my experience, if you order over email or internet it doesnt always go right but in the store its usually fine from what I have seen of the ladies who have ordered dresses from her that way

I have just ordered 4 adult bridesmaids and one child bridesmaid from her! Communication is fine if you go into the shop! I also found that when i went back in and spoke to the lady whp appears to be in charge, what I had requested had not been written down correctly! i went through it all with her and am happy with everything now so just got to wait! I went for made to measure and I will let you know the outcome in about 4-6 weeks!xx

I used her after all the good reviews but wish i hadn't!

I went to the shop and had the made-to-measure service, went through everything in detail.

I had 2 adult and 2 child dresses made.

The first problem was the delivery time....i was originally quoted 6 weeks which in the end, turned out to be 12 weeks. Maybe my own naivety but i thought the dresses were made on the premises but they are made in Hong Kong and shipped over.

Then the main problem....they had made the dresses with corset backs when I requested zip backs....I was livid after having to wait the extra time and having to chase constantly. It wouldn't have been too much of a problem but the 1 dress if for my tiny 8 year old and she looks ridiculous in a corset back.

They said they couldn't change them and there was no apology for the lateness of the mistake....in my own stupidity I hadn't checked the paperwork...it didn't state zip back but by the same token it didn't state corset back either.

I've managed to find a lovely local seamstress who is going to look at the dress tomorrow and hopefully be able to fit a zip ( i get married in just over a week!)

So, in conclusion, if you are going to use them......order in plenty of time, get everything in writing and remember you get what you pay for.

    Good luck girls xx

Her communication is a nightmare & you have to chase to get any info on your dresses. She can be hard to get hold of on the phone & her written communication isn't great. We went to her shop & ordered pink dresses. What she didn't tell us was that the dress would arrive in two different shades of pink. We made a fuss & after several complicated phone calls etc they agreed to remake them. When we eventually got the new dresses they were much better. The fit is very impressive for such a cheap dress & the colour was perfect second time around. It was slightly nerve wracking as we were getting far too close to my wedding date for comfort but I would say that if you order them early enough to sort out any problems then they are a good buy. I'll add a flash later when I'm on my own laptop,

Oh, one more thing. The dresses come over from Hong Kong as a standard dress but in two halves - front & back. They are then sewn together at the shop according to your measurements. I think this is how they do them so cheaply as it isn't the same as proper tailoring. But hey, I got my BM dresses for £45 instead of £250 if I'd had the proper ones from Dessy.

Thanks for all of your comments ladies.

I will probably end up going for it and paying by credit card for protection as some of you have suggested, but i will have a little think about it. ?

You can only do that if you buy through ebay. She will only accept cash in her shop. Here's a flash of one of the dresses we eventually got which my bridesmaids love.

Hi there - I ordered my three BM dresses from her and whilst the initial ordering seemed to take forever (not all down to slow communication - my BM's were rubbish at getting me their measurements!) I sent her a picture of the dress I wanted copying - the Flute dress by LK Bennett and a sample of the colour I wanted. She said she could do them for £55 each, which I was happy with. I was also able to pay a £60 deposit via Paypal and then the remainder when I collected them, and she does take cards not just cash in the shop!

    I am really happy with the finished dresses - they are not exactly like the dress but as near as dammit and all my bridesmaids are really happy with them - I can't do a flash unfortunately as the dresses are all with the BM's now but this is the dress she copied;

    I would recommend her on my experience but I would say that if you are going to use her;

    a) Give yourself plenty of time - the dresses were about two weeks overdue but the initial to'ing and fro'ing with emails, getting measurements and sending material samples etc took about a month!

    b) Go for the made-to-measure service and contact her directly through the shop rather than going through eBay.

    c) Ask to pay a deposit by Paypal - though this may only be something she offers to people coming to the shop to collect.

    d) Be patient! Keep on at her but keep in mind that she is very busy and also working in a foreign language!
