Bit miffed at reaction to FG dresses ;’(

MrsV-wasMissB, 3 March, 2015 at 13:10 Posted on Planning 0 11

Admittedly, I don’t have children so I don’t know what is or isn't good etc. however the dresses arrived today and I was super excited. They do look a little on the small side but gorgeous. Anyway , I watsapped my friend (her daughter is FG), my MIL2B, BIL2B and SIL2B (their daughters/granddaughters are FGs) and said “I think they’ve come in a bit small so we’d need to try on but what do yu think?”

All I got back was “yes that’s a bit short” and “are they supposed to be that short”?. I get on very well with them so I’m not offended by their remarks, just put out on the dresses choice (I’m conscious I’m not planning my choices to all match/go together, and just having what I like) and now worried.

Nevertheless I replied and said “yes that’s my intention, I don’t like floor length dresses on young or old, so one of my reasons for this choice was that they are just below knee length rather than floor”. Since then, no one has commented on them :’( Although they liked the picture from online. The flower detail is gorgeous and I loved the hint of pink and the gold bow matches the ribbon in my boquet and what will be on the FG baskets.

I suppose I am in no place to moan fi they don’t like them though as Friend is going halves and BIL2B and MIL2B are buying. SIGH anyway !

I think they look lovely Smiley smile Not too short at all. I would assume that the length is around knee length. I personally think flower girls look better in a shorter length dress anyway!!

They look lovely. My FG dress is between knee and ankle, which is fine for FG's as they are only little themselves!

When I first read what they said, I thought they meant it was too short as in age inappropriate. But they're not, they're just not floor length. I also think these are probably more age appropriate than long dresses.

It's your wedding, it's important that you like them! Everyone else's opinion doesn't really matter.

They're lovely dresses and def not too short. Who wants to see little kids tripping over floor length dresses? Not me!

    Thank you all Smiley smile

I have popped home on lunch and having seen them together with the bridesmaids dresses and the flowers, I'm confident it's all amazingly gorgeous together.

Funnily enough my h2b and brother in law have commented how nice they are. It's the mum and sister in law that don't seem so keen... Maybe when they see their darlings in them Smiley winking

Are you sure your interpretation of small/short hasn't got lost in translation somewhere? It just sounds like they're not as excited about them as you, which is fair enough on both sides - you obviously love them and, given the choice, they might pick something totally different, it's just a matter of taste.

As for the dresses themselves, they look fine. Perfectly age/weather appropriate. Maybe remind their parents they don't want to be in full length in August.

They're both lovely dresses - but did you send them that picture you just posted? If so that might be where the worry is coming from because it makes them look really short next to the adult one. I know when they're on they will be prob below knee length - monsoon FG dresses usually are, but that picture might be giving a false representation that's all.

I think your FG dresses are beautiful & very appropriate. Agree with what the other girls have said about very young children in long dresses, they can trip & look drowned in them. The dresses you've chosen will look spot on & go great with you BM dress. It's sometimes really hard to visualise when you just see a flat picture, in the flesh and especially tried on I'm sure the adults will appreciate them.

    I love the dresses!!

I don't have kids but I imagine having a dress that's shorter rather than a bit too long would be better so the girls can dance about and play and whatever little girls do without getting them all mucky etc.

I'm sure your friend didn't mean anything by it, they might just have an (old fashioned??) idea that flower girls dressed 'have' to be long.
