We're planning on spending about £10,000. it really doesnt matter how much it all costs though, just as long as its how you both want it & that you end up married ?

we have kind of done everything different...we have bought our own marquees instead of hiring so fingers crossed we will be able to sell them on afterwards. we have bought suits as H2B doesnt own one so he can wear that one time and time again after our wedding!

my bridesmaids dress was off ebay, 2 for a £100. they have both been worn before but look BRAND NEW!

my dress was £200 from a lady on Facebook and is AMAZING! fell in love with it at first glance and had to buy it. looks immaculate & as if nobody has ever worn it...not sure if they have or not...doesnt bother me though, its my dress now ?

most of the budget is going into the reception venue. we have the whole place to ourselves for a 3 day weekend, lots of holiday cottages and a swimming pool too so our guests can use everything there as well.

thats not including the honeymoon though...we've budgeted about £2,500 for the honeymoon but hopefully that will be £500 spending money & £2,000 on the honeymoon (going all inclusive hopefully) ?

    have you booked venue, etc?

    Oh, I'm sure it will!!

We started with a budget of £10,000 without a honeymoon but its probably going to end up being £15,000 including a honeymoon and spending money etc. So probably £12,000 ish. Thanks goodness for our generous families and the fact we are pretty secure at the moment. I feel really fotunate with our budget though, because I don't think I have scrimping on important things for frivolities, and we have been able to do pretty much what we wanted without feeling stressed about the prices etc, and go on honeymoon (though some of that bit is going to be a loan I think).

I am positive though that its all about what you put into the day, not how much you spend on it that makes it amazing and your day!

Ours is really small under £1000 in fact atm and over bugeting its comming in at around £800 ? shocking I know.

I cannot justify a huge budget when I'm a sahm and we have 2 beautiful boys to look after first ?

For us it's more about being married and being together as h&w than the materialisic white wedding. although if we had the money to spare we would x

Our budget is roughly £22,000 before honeymoon. We're pretty well established, have plenty of savings, own our flat, and even though I recently had my £25,000 student loan entirely written off, so where before I probably would kept it much smaller, I now feel like I was meant to be able to spend a small fortune as I basically just lost all the debt I would have had to otherwise pay off.

Our budget was £12,000 but is now £10,000 as ive been on a massive bargain hunt and doing alot myself. Our honeymoon hasnt been factored in yet as hopefully it will be mostly vouchers and donations from our guests.

Would love a big wedding but i have 2 children and just couldnt and wouldnt want to spend a huge amount of money on one day.

We live a good life and enjoy nice things in life. We have no debts and dont wish to get into any so we wanted to do it so we could afford from the money comming in.

A big day isnt what means alot to mean its the fact of marrying my partner in a dustbin bag or a designer gown.

Obviously its not ideal to some people but at the end of the day we will all be the same thing ... Married no matter how much money you spend Smiley smile

Working it out at the moment ours is coming in at about £7000 but i'm really hoping to get that down, i'd love to be able to do it for a lot less. I originally thought the budget would be about £4000 but i just can't find how to do it for that amount!

Ours is around 16k, we're lucky that my oh has a good job and we live in a country that pays it's employees well, I still think it's a crazy amount of money to be spending though and I agree with you it's the marriage that is important not the wedding. If we didn't have the means I would have no qualms about downsizing and making more effort to bargain hunt. I went to a wedding a few years ago where they had spent about 3k, then went to a 20k one last year and the cheaper one was much more fun! It's about what you make with it :-)

Our budget was 6000 then both our parents sat us down and said they wanted to pay for the wedding in thirds (us my parents and OH parents) so it went to 12,000 but we couldn't face paying out double our original budget for a wedding so we decided on 9000, so that i can have my dream venue. around 5000 including registrar it comes to so we have 4000 for everything else.

Of course that's true, but you did ask what our budget's were. Now I feel like I need to defend myself for how much I'm spending.

As every one of my guests and quite a few of OH's will be travelling from overseas, I wanted to be sure they felt it was worth the trip, so we've booked an amazing venue and will be covering all their alcohol, including the evening bar. That alone is 80% of our budget, and I'm spending very little on everything else. I don't think £1500 is necessarily outside the normal realm for ring budget, especially as I consider it the most important purchase surrounding the wedding as they're going to be worn the rest of our lives and are the symbols of our vows. I'm not wearing a designer gown, not hiring cars or dressing the venue, but I'm hosting one damn good party for my family and friends to celebrate the rest of our lives together. If we didn't earn considerably more than we spend, or have quite a lot of savings in the bank, we'd probably approach it differently, but as it is, we are well within our means and happy to use the money for something including all of our loved ones.

I think you're extremely lucky to be able to rely on friends for certain things, I just don't have that option not knowing many people here.

Now now ladies - I don't think we need to get defensive here - the question about budgets was asked, but I think we can all agree that the most important thing is that we end up Mr and Mrs at the end of the day, and that if our circumstances were different we would do things differently. I like to think no-one who has posted here is being reckless with the amount you are spending - anything above (what you consider to be) the bare essentials can seem frivolous, but I think this should be the do of our lives so I'm happy to throw the money we have available at it, but money does not a good wedding make - thats all down to the thought and planning that goes in IMO.

I'm sure we could all get into fisticuffs over what the important things are for a wedding day - but does it really matter?

I don't think you need to justify yourself Venart, any more than people who go on expensive holidays or buy expensive clothes need to justify themselves. (I don't think Tinkytayls was asking you to justify yourself either.)

Our wedding was about £18k. We put in £5k, my PILs put in £5k and my parents put in £8k (to reflect the large number of their guests). It was important to us to have plenty of good food and a free bar, and we had about 200 guests to feed, so I don't think we spent an unreasonable amount.

Also, although it came as a shock to us, and we don't think of it that way, we actually received more in cash gifts than we ourselves spent on the wedding... plus we had most of our gift list bought for us as well. So if you were counting that way, we actually ended up financially better by spending money on getting married. That money which was given to us by guests, and money 'saved' by not needing to buy household items since guests bought them for us, will be going towards our future and the extra cash is making it easier for us to be able to buy a home.

    Under £500.

All we wanted from our wedding was to be married, so didn't bother with a reception, or guests for that matter as none of the "extra" bits were important to us.
