Bit of a stoopid question..

Charliebob, 31 October, 2014 at 16:41 Posted on Planning 0 7

..but I don't know the answer! We are getting married a year and a bit in advance now I know it's not time to give notice yet but we can book the registrars, right? For the time we want and that. Does anyone know how much we pay? Is it a small depsoit or the whopping great big one (£540 for a Saturday I think) does anyone know???? Thanks

It varies from area to area, but we booked our registrars and paid a £100 deposit with 14 months to go. We then gave notice and paid the notice fee of £35 each, with 9 months to go. The balance of £404 is then due 6 weeks before the wedding.

Hope that helps! And it is NOT a stupid question!!

The best thing to do is to ring the local authority where you are getting married and ask - they are all different, and have different rules about when you can book/how much it costs etc.

You might be a bit too far away from your date at the moment, as from what I've seen on here most LAs won't let you formally reserve a date more than 12 months in advance, all though they will usually pencil it in for you.

If you aren't getting married under the same LA you live under, you will have to register in both; again the processes for this vary from LA to LA so just ask when you call.

    Good luck and congratulations!

Ours is £520 all in with 'notice' fees…☺️

I'm getting married March 2016 and booked the registrars in July 2014. It wasn't a problem. I paid the deposit of £50 and need to pay the £350 left closer to the time.

    Hope that helps
