blinking, and videos?

dlees81, 5 December, 2011 at 21:51 Posted on Planning 0 6

I have a really annoying habit of blinking when having my picture taken, most of my first wedding pictures had to be taken at least twice because of this, leading to them being more noticeably 'posed' than they should have been. Any ideas how to avoid this this time? A friend who does wedding photography as a second job is doing the honours at our budget/DIY/Friends-Do-It-For-Us (FDIFU) wedding.

Not sure OH approves of the idea of a wedding video but I think we should have one. Also, anyone tried that Shoot-It-Yourself wedding DVD company I've seen advertised in wedding mags? How much do they charge? I was thinking of just buying a cheap digital camcorder and getting FDIFU (as above).

I have this same habit, its so annoying isn't it! Interesting to see if there are any tips about for this.

As for shoot it yourself, I think their basic package is about £750 which is actually more than some vogs will charge you - I looked into it myself thinking it might work out cheaper!!

Wow thanks for that! How much??!! Sounds like they are banking on people not shopping around or researching. Looks like we'll be having FDIFU on the vid front as well, if I can persuade OH!

The main issue with shoot it yourself would be the quality of the audio. Onboard video camera microphones are really poor for weddings compared to properly selected external or personal microphones.

One option is to shoot in burst mode where the camera fires 2-3 quick shots. This will get you with eyes open, although can run in to problems if using flash.

Photographers do have techniques for avoiding brides that blink and your shots should not need to look posed to achieve this.

Occassionally I get a bride who must of been made in Tokyo as she will be totally in synch with my camera. Everytime the shutter gets pressed she blinks.

It only seems to happen when the camera is pointed at her, maybe in the future cameras will have full wireless control.

It's easily worked around though, just take two shots in succession.

Like the others have said, one method is to shoot in burst mode which takes several photos over a very short period of time. It doesn't work so well with flash though.

Another way, which a tog friend has told me about before, is to close your eyes before the photo, and open them when the tog asks you to. The tog then presses the shutter when your eyes are fully open. Then there is no way you'd be blinking in the picture!

That is also one of several techniques that I have used.?
