BM dresses that dont match

sidsidney, 23 October, 2009 at 18:22 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi, I wanted a few opinions on BM dresses and whether people think its ok if they dont match. I have asked my friend to be my MOH, who is a size 14. I was also considering asking my sister to be a BM, who is a size 26.

My sister would probably want a dress which would be long and would cover her up a little, where as both I and my friend would prefer shorter, strapless prom style dresses for the BMs.

I suppose there is no law to say that the BMs should have matching dresses, but I wondered whether anyone else has had/seen BMs in different style dresses and how it worked out. They would, naturally, match in colour!.

My Bms had two different dresses, my neices had a debut number from Debenhams and my CBM had a bridesmaid dress from a wedding shop, both matched in colour perfectly but were very diffy in style.

    go for it!

Non-matchy BM dresses are very en-vogue at the moment, especially across the pond. Hope these images help....

I think it makes a much more interesting group of bridemaids when they aren't all dressed in a 'uniform' manner, complimentary colours, or tones, different style, that best suits each girl would make alot more sense to me.

It think it looks really cool having un-matching BMs dresses. For myself I would prefer them to be the same colour but any shade of that colour.

I agree that different dresses are perfectly ok whether they are made from the same material or just compliment each other.

As a bridesmaid I'd love to feel comfortable in my dress and a style that suits me not my fellow bridesmaids would be a relief!

    Go for it!

    Susan.

WOW!! Makes me wish I had a load of girls to dress in all different shades like that!

Note to self: Shut up you're stressing about the same kind of thing atm you dont need any more bms in the mix

When I read the original post I thought I definately want all my bridesmaids in the same dresses but when I saw the pics of 'unmatching' dresses they look great.

I suppose it makes sense that people of different shapes and sizes suit different styles so it might save on the arguing when trying to pick just one dress.

My BMs won't match, they are all choosing their own dresses in the same colour scheme. I have 3 BMs (had 4 but one is pregnant and due around the time of the wedding). so far only one (my sister) has decided on her dress, this one
