Board Games

*Mini*, 6 December, 2013 at 19:50 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 24

We have decided that on Xmas day we shall play board games after dinner. Now we have the usual Scrabble, Monopoly etc but there will only be 2 of us here and need something we can both do.

Has anyone got a suggestion as to one thats good?I like the thought of Pictonary, rapidough sorts of games but not sure if these will work with just 2 of us.

(Is this a dull thread? Thread anxiety has set in)

My husband loves board games! We have monopoly (two of them) the chase, lottery, ludo and trivial pursuit. We play all of these ourselves.

we also play rummy, blackjack and poker (and he gets in a grump when I beat him) these are so easy to play for two people.

Bananagrams. It is amazing and you play your own set of letters so works really well with two. We love it.

The pictionary sort would be good as well, H wanted the Lego version (creationary?) but I refuse to buy more games.

If it's just us, we line up 2/3 games and time maybe 45 mins/hour for each one so we don't get bored. If we play a game of monopoly to the end it can get a bit boring.

Bananagrams is indeed awesome. Even with just two of you.

Bit of a board game geek here, we have loads. There is a game called Ticket to Ride, which is an excellent game and is great with 2 players. We've been playing this fairly regularly for about 5 years now!

Another great game with 2 is a game called Dominion. It's a card based game and is different every time you play. Easy as pie to get to know (as is Ticket to Ride) but excellent. Smiley laugh

normally when I start talking about board games, no one has heard of anything I'm talking about.

All our tables were named after board games we enjoy playing. We had; Dominion, Puerto Rico, 7 Wonders, Bohnanza, Stone Age, Thurn and Taxis, Notre Dame, Carcassonne, Agricola, and another one I can't remember, but all work really well with 2 and are a bit different to your usual games Smiley smile

Not a dull thread IMO! Boggle and scattergories are quite good to play with two. We play two play monopoly two and mullet trump cards have brought us endless hours of fun in the past: /games-puzzles-office-fun/

We also have a game called Dirty Minds, which is good for 2 players - you read out clues and the other person has to guess what the word is but all the clues sound it a bit dirty but the answers are innocent so it's just a bit silly but amusing - especially when you've had a few. Link here to what I mean here! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dirty-Minds-Game-Naughty-Clues/dp/B0002PRQ50

We play games and it's not a dull thread! Try any of the Logo board games, we've bought one every year for the past 4 years and still haven't got through all the questions.

He won't be disappointed Tizzie! H seems to have great taste in board games, he's yet to pick us a bad one. Boardgamegeek.com is brilliant for finding out about games. It's our first pit stop when we find a new game to check out its rating.

Ah Loopz, myself and H are huge board game geeks too! We have about 60 in our collection at the mo, board game geek is a great website Smiley smile

I love Dominion, one of my favs. Love letter is a great simple game... although I can't remember if it is 2 player off the top of my head. Coloretto or Zooloretto are great 'gateway' games, as is Survive, Eruption, Bohnanza. Hive is a good 2 player strategic game, Jaipur is supposed to be a good 2 player one, although not one I've played personally.

Let me know if you want any more recommendations, I have a tonne Smiley laugh

Ooooh I was looking at Love Letter the other day but wasn't sure if it sounded too family game like. Maybe I'll give it a go Smiley smile

Also Mini, Polarity is a fun game, especially if you've had a few as it becomes impossible who either makes you cross or collapse in bouts of laughter.

Love letter is a good filler game, I don't know how many of you generally play, we tend to have game nights at least once a week with anywhere between 4-10 people and have a few of those quick filler games which are good for end/start of the night or when waiting on others to arrive etc. Zombie Dice is another good quick filler. I would also recommend Last Night on Earth, or Nuns on The Run, but they are perhaps a bit more hard core than you may be after Mini.

Technically not a board game but H and I LOVE Yahtzee! We take it holiday with us and play at least once a day. I am currently champion.

I like playing games but boyo is such a bad loser that he rarely agrees to play! Might try and convince him with some of these suggestions tho.

Guess who is a good two player game! Or you could play scrabble with a theme- we did one with just swear words / rude words (so mature!)

This. OH is incredibly competitive and I'm really not. Last time we played Monopoly he ended up playing against himself while I sat drinking wine. I somehow still managed to win.

I love this game! We completely make up the rules when we play though so someone ends up with a forfeit (usually me)!

Yes we tend to do this when we go camping to pass the time (and drink lots of wine obviously)

I'm going to have a shop this weekend when he is at work. Hoping to get something good from these suggestions.
