Bodypumpers - How fit do you need to be?

Michelin, 24 July, 2008 at 14:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

I have just joined a gym in my new drive to get fit. Noticed the chat on here re Bodypump and looks like a really great class. However, I haven't done any exercise for years - and I mean years ? - so I am wondering if I would be mad to go straignt into something like this without a few weeks of gym training etc to get my fitness levels up/started. What do you bodypumpers think??

I did four weeks in the gym first before I attempted my first Body Pump class - just so that I was comfortable lifting free weights and getting a baseline fitness. I just wanted to feel more confident I guess. It's entirely up to you really. There are a lot of reps in a BP class and I always want to try and get to the end of each section without giving up (and standing out!) ?

I've been doing BP for about 6 weeks now and have started going twice a week - and I've upped my weights on the first three sections - be warned, it's very addictive!

Let us know what you think of it.

Thanks CBH - that's what I thought. You are actually one of the people who inspired me to do this - I have known for ages that I need to lose weight and get fitter and I remember reading a post from you where you said you didn't like exercise but had started going to the gym and now you loved it and was virtually addicted. I hope that happens to me! Now for the weight loss.....!?

    Shucks. ?

Body Pump is great for helping with weight loss because boy do you sweat! I'm signing off now to go out for a road run - just going to try and do 20 minutes without stopping and then I've got the weekend off.

I may be getting the hang of BP technique but I look a mess when I run. It's just sooo hard and I have to be honest, I'm inspired by Wodger, Iris and Chicken!

You don't need to be fit to start doing this, as long as you can walk into the class then you are onto a winner as you only do as much as you can do. I do this class 3 times a week and have people of all abilites coming in.

Don't wait ..... get in there as long as the instructor knows you haven't done it before, so they can keep an eye on your technique, you will be fine
