Bollywood Wedding

debbie.wife.to.be.215, 4 November, 2014 at 09:52 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello all,

Slight change in plans, we're going to have a Bollywood themed reception! Any ideas?

I'm thinking of hiring an Asian Wedding Specialist photographer so we get the right look and feel on the photos. Mabz seems to fit the bill.

As the actual ceremony will be traditional, do you think I can hire one photographer for the ceremony and a different one for the reception? Or is that just asking for trouble?

Thank you

?

    Hi Debbie,

what a lovely idea! My husband is Asian so we also had quite a bit of Bollywood happening on our big day Smiley smile

Regarding the photographer: We had an Asian Photographer for the ceremony (it was a traditional western civil ceremony/ white dress/ walking down the aisle etc.) as well as for the reception. He did a great job! Where do you live? I could pass his contact details to you if you like. We are in London.

Of course you could also hire two separate photographers, but honestly speaking the actual wedding day is so short - you don't want to spend too much time meeting and managing different photographers. To be honest, if they are good you might not even notice them around you.

On the day I surprised my husband with a group of Bollywood dancers. After their performance they invited all our guests on the dance floor and taught them a brief choreography which we then danced together - it was amazing!

What are your plans and ideas for the reception? I love fusion weddings!

My husband to be has Asian heritage so we were thinking of this too. We are using the violinist Simon Jordan who can play a mixture of Bollywood and western music. He's so adaptable we're not sure whether we need a DJ. I'm a bit apprehensive about photographers who specialise in Asian weddings as they are incredibly 'in your face' and don't know when to back off!

Thank you so much for your replies.

Here is Mabz's website he looks like he should be able to do both the ceremony and the reception. Asian Wedding Specialist

Hi, I can't help with any advice myself but my friend's website is https://bollywoodborrowed.com/ which might come in useful either for yourself or wedding guests. Her name is Bina (and you'll be able to pick her brains about all things wedding too!) HTH

I think the key part will be the dj rather than the photographer. Any good photographer should be able to capture the event. Use of an Asian dj will make the event authentic. I photographed a Bollywood themed 21st party last week and they had a great Sikh dj called Apna dj, he's in Leeds/Bradford.
