    Hi,

I could name loads of places !

Anyway, one or two spring to mind...

    Haigh Hall - Wigan

    Townley Hall - Burnley

    Salmesbury Hall - Preston

    Clitheroe Castle - Clitheroe

I could go on forever but I'll leave it at that for now Smiley smile

    All the best

Hiya! I very almost went for Bolton Castle. I thought it was a fantastic venue. In the end the only reason I didn't was that we have about 20 kids coming and there were just a few too many steep stone staircases for my liking! Also, they couldn't quite fit the numbers we needed for the wedding breakfast.

would be amazing at Christmas with all those open fires! ooh mulled wine for reception drinks!

I would say to go and see it and see what you think. It's a very medieval castle so there are no mod cons like heating. They bring a load of heaters in and it is warm enough. We went to see it in the winter (November I think) and you could tell it would be warm enough. They also have loads of massive fireplaces which would kick out some heat.

I would say as a venue it definitely has the wow factor but you won't have the 'comfort' that you have in a hotel. Personally I didn't want a hotel wedding so that didn't matter to me. It really does depend what you want for your day. They do a lot of medieval banquet type weddings there (I wasn't going to have that).

I would say it's definitely worth a visit but if it's mod cons, comfort and opulence that you're looking for then you won't find that there. But it is a proper castle with lovely fireplaces and big stone staircases.

We also were considering Allerton Castle but be warned that there's another £50 per head venue charge on top of the prices quoted in the Dine brochure (or at least there was when I looked at the end of last year).

We've ended up down in Grantham at Harlaxton Manor because I just couldn't find what I was looking for in Yorkshire unfortunately!

If you're willing to travel, my friend had a winter wedding at Cubley Hall in Penistone, Sheffield last year and that was very nice.

What are your requirements (numbers, budget, other features etc) for your venue? I can have a hunt through my venue lists for you!

Ooo i was just up in redmire today. It depends on what your willing to travel as North Yorkshire is a big place,

Here are a few with in that area, as well as north and south.

    Simonstone hall,

    Yorebridge house

    ripley castle

    Goldsborough hall

    Middleton Lodge

    Georgian theatre royal.

I shoot alot of weddings around cattrick churched that use the blackwell grange in darlington as there venue.

I would also have in the back of your mind with bolton castle, if it snows how will people get there. (do suppliers have adaquate transportation to give it a go - snow socks or chains for tyres, Shovels etc)

Oh, and then there's Ripley Castle as mentioned above....quite simply stunning !!

For a Winter wedding I don't think you could go far wrong with any of the venues above.

    Regards,

Thank you for all your suggestions, we really are trying to keep the prices down and so far we dont really want to spend more than 5 grand for the reception which seems rather difficult and even this seems a lot to me ! We have around 50 adults and 20-25 children. I want somewhere with a log fire really and christmas feel to it . I like the idea of the castle as you can get married there and dont want to get married in a hotel setting so if we ended up in a hotel we would have a church wedding and then go to the venue for the reception. We are wanting ideally a intimate sit down meal and then a hog roast style buffet perhaps for after . I dont want to go too far afield due to possible weather snow conditions either, some family are travelling from leeds, some blackburn and us from harrogate. Thank you so much for all your help Smiley smile xxxx

We spent our honeymoon night at Middleham and visited Bolton Castle before travelling up to Newcastle airport for a week in Torremolinos. This was before it was a wedding venue though. It was on TV a few weeks ago that they are concentrating on weddings and have introduced an owl who will deliver the wedding ring in his beak and land it on a ring pillow if you like! Not sure I would trust an owl with a wedding ring though ?

I wonder if wedding insurance would pay out if it swallowed it - gulp! Seriously though, they are exceptionally well behaved owls!

Am also intrigued! We looked round Allerton as one of our shortlist. Loved the high ceilings in the ceremony area, kinda like marrying in a church. Liked the gardens too, and the view from the outside. Hated the general goldness of it - bridal suite was all gold. Some of the rooms were kinda fusty too, though this is obviously just my taste, so no offence to anyone who may be marrying there!

Hi Everyone! One of our brides for this July has spotted your thread and thought we should put up a post so here goes!

The venue hire fee at any of our venues is not something we actively "hide" from people because that wouldn't be particularly productive. We're actually working with the private owner of Allerton Castle to get the venue hire fee down a bit more at the moment but it is out of our direct control and we aren't allowed to list it in the brochure but it is listed in the covering letter (which we can change if the venue fee is changed by the Foundation that own the Castle!) and we do tell everyone we speak to when they call to find out more.

It is currently £50 per guest but £4,000 (VAT exempt as a charitable foundation)for 80 guests to exclusively hire a castle in the condition Allerton is kept in we think is good value but appreciate it can be outside of a lot of peoples budgets when costs for catering are added on top. Please take the time to read all of our testimonials on our website (and on Hitched of course!) which are all genuine letters/cards following weddings at Allerton - we proudly display them in our tasting room in the office at Allerton so if anyone wants to have a look when they view please just ask! Again, we appreciate that we are not cheap but try to concentrate on ensuring all of clients are delighted with the service from start to finish and feel they've experienced genuine value. Feel free to get in touch if anyone has any more question, you'll find us on Hitched!
