Book dilemma

Flowery the Grouch, 10 February, 2009 at 19:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I recently read a book. It was shit. It was the first of 4. Despite it being rubbish, I want to find out what happens. Do I read the rest?

HRML!

Life's too short to waste on bad books when there are so many more good books out there. Sack it. If you want to know what happens, read a review on amazon - they normally tell you the whole fucking plot.

I read them all recently because everyone was raving about them. I thought book 1 was good, 2 was absolute rubbish, 3 was pretty pants and the 4th book was alright but a bit disappointing so I'd say no, don't bother. They are alright but not as spectacular as everyone keeps saying they are, especially the 2nd book, I hated it. I really hated Bella though so that didn't help at all, I also hated Jacob. In fact the only characters I liked were Edward and his dad.

"and then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever"

And if you haven't been sick on your shoes, that's the last line of the last book. There. Job done.

I knew you were going to say Twililight!

I really enjoyed the first one, but I like twee, easy rubbish. I have read three of them now, but Twilight was the best so far . . .

I also knew you were going to say Twilight from your introduction ?

I've never read them, although I do know what happens in the final book as I've seen lots of people moan about it! You could always read the spoiler reports for the other 3 at http://www.thebookspoiler.com/ if you really need to know.

Is it really that rubbish? I've been wanting to read it to see what the fuss is about - keep meaning to buy it at the shops but always end up forgetting lol

I enjoyed the series, but I didn't go into it with any expectations (it was before the film came out) and I do enjoy consuming 'kids' books as a distraction (although I usually insist I'm only reading them because it's important to keep up with what my students are reading! ?) If you read it to "see what all the fuss is about", you will probably be disappointed. If you read it purely for some vacuous entertainment, it's very suitable.

It's not the fact that it's a children's book that is the problem. I read a lot of children's books, and have no suitable excuse ?. I've just finished Airman by Eoin Colfer, which was excellent. I've also not heard any hype about twilight, and didn't realise it was also a film [living in a cave icon], but one friend had read it, and recommended it.

It's weak, shallow, cliched, and full of "snickering".

? Oh well, would be a boring world if we all liked the same things!

If you liked the Eoin Colfer, have you tried his Artemis Fowl books? I've really enjoyed them.

For some reason I quite enjoyed Twilight... I think its because at the moment I haven't got the brain capacity for anything too much ? Hell last week I read katie Price's 'Crystal'....now that is a shit book! I'm borrowing the other 3 off a friend next week but I have no great expectation for them, it will just be a way of passing the time.

I'm reading Gargoyle at the moment, and I'm really enjoying it
