Book recs please

Bridget Gump, 11 August, 2009 at 21:55 Posted on Planning 0 9

As I have circa 40 hours of flying and airport waits on our HM to fill I'm starting to stock up on reading material.

I don't read anywhere as much as I probably should, but enjoy most reads. Especially interesting autobiographies, I like Dan Brown but have read all of them but similar types maybe? Also any humourous wife guides/novels would be cool.

Doesn't exactly match your criteria, but I've just read The Kite Runner and loved it!

I'm currently re-reading Wuthering Heights and Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone!

Have you read any Martina Cole or Karin Slaughter books? Really easy to read crime/thriller type books. I also love Jodi Picolt books.

I've also recently read Liz Smith's biography (nanna in the Royle family). That was a good read.

Theres a thread about book recommendations on OT which you might pick a few ideas up from.

I read Peter Kay's autobiography, The Sound of Laughter, and loved it, although you have to like him to enjoy it.

Just reading through the OT one now.

Martina Cole has been recommended to me so she is on my list. My mum reads a lot of Jodi Picolt so I might borrow some of hers.

I just finished 'When Will There be Good News' by Kate Atkinson which was great. I've read all her books, 'Behind the Scenes at the Musuem' is probably best though I also love 'Emotionally Weird'.

I also love most things by Margaret Atwood, Alision Lurie and Muriel Spark.

for lighter, fun stuff, anything by Sophie Kinsella, such as the Shopaholic books. 'Shopaholic ties the knot' is very funny and obviously about weddings.

Lisa Jewell also a great one for lighter, but still great writing. 'Vince and Joy' is probably my favourite.

Sort of inbetween is Adriana Trigiani, like the 'Big Stone Gap' books.

    love books

ok for christmas my sister purchased me the marriage bureau for rich people bt Faraham Zama (very good easy reading predictable but enjoyable)

    Also

Snowflower and the secret fan by Lisa See

Couldn't put it down very different to the above.

If it is biographies/ auto biographies you like I loved Clarissa Dickcon Wright and Russel Brand (but these are deafinately not to everyones liking as both go off on random tangents).

A Firm favourite with me is Richard Dawkings The blindwatcher but possibly a little heavy for holiday reading. I am currently reading the Memory Keepers daughter so far so good but judgement is withheld untill the book is finished.

In terms of easy reading Jane Greene is always fairly easy going and enjoyable.

My latest holiday stand by has been Alexander McCall Smith of the No.1 ladies dectivie agency but personally I think his Sunday Philosphy Club are better

    hope this helps

    x

I love biographies / autobiographies! Some of my recent faves are:

    Oona King - House Music

Obama - The Audacity of Hope

Alex James - A Bit of a Blur

    Marianne Faithfull - Faithfull

And the first Piers Morgan book - The Insider - I found really entertaining though I actually don't like him much....

I guess it depends what sort of people you are into though!
