Have you clarified with your local registrar that this is their policy as they are all different? We could book ours over 2 years in advance (March 2012) for July 2014. If you can't, book your venue and call your registrar the first day you can and book your slot ? should be fine!!

My registrar would only let us book a year to the day. I booked the venue but spent a month or so was nervous I wouldnt get the time I wanted. I made sure I rang as soon as they opened a year from the date and got the time I wanted fine. xxx

I'm getting married in March 2014 and was able to provisionally book the registrar in December 2012. It'll only be confirmed once we've given notice at our local register office though and we can't do that more than a year in advance.

If you do it as soon as you're able to then you shouldn't have any problems as others will be in the same boat as you :-)

If you havent already, ring the registrar.

I booked mine about a month ago, and im getting married a year today.. and there was no problem at all.

Give them a ring and find out.

The other thing is - if you *do* have to wait until its a year... book the venue and then ring up as soon as they open on the day that you can book it and get the time you want!

My venue required that I have a registrar booked. However, as it was some 18 months before the day, the registrar booking was "provisional". In reality, this was a firm booking, as they contacted me when the year deadline was reached to confirm that I still wanted to have the booking.

I don't think it's an odd thing tbh. My venue recommended that I book the registrar first too (like FTLOMB) & they must have known that the local council accepts bookings that far in advance.
