Boring Budgets... trying to keep the cost down.

Jellyflower, 28 December, 2009 at 11:04 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hello,

I have just gone through my budget with an 'old married'(which was brilliant and have a nice and easy to follow spreadsheet!) and have come out at about £6000 we were looking to only really spend about £5000.

I thought i was doing well especially as got my dress for £100!

Does anyone have any tips to help get the costs down a bit or am i only dreaming?

Thanks x x x

Depends what's on your list ?

Don't forget - you can shop around for everything to get the cheapest possible price. Always get a good 4 or 5 quotes.

Prioritise things that aren't as important to you. I've said it before, but I dislike favours - cutting these out could save you money.

    Thanks GeordieBarbie

Our biggest thing on there is the food and drink!

I agree that the best way is to priortise as to what is important to you.

DO you have any friends or family members who can you help you out? We saved money on our DJ, photographer and cake by asking people we know. Some of them offered to do them for free and some we're paying but are much cheaper. When I was organising our budget we made a rough price of what we were prepared to pay for each thing and then used this to google, ebay etc and see if we could undercut it. Some things we've spent more than we planned, but we've saved money elsewhere so it balances out.

If you have someone in your family who is a great cook, you could always buy a "fake cake" and get someone to bake cake for you to serve, a friend from work did this and no one knew the difference! Lxx

See then its more easy for you to estimate the marriage cost and make a good and wise decision.

Like what ever expences you did in that you have to look back and see if i did't do that then may

be the cost will be lower one.

I think its hard to say because we want all the things are suppose to be the perfect one

so we try to put the maximum money to make it more and more beautiful.

Their are some simple and good looking one which are less in cost and

pretty one so you have to try that one.

    Thanks

    Thanks guys,

I've got a friends doing the photographs and another possibly doing the DJing. A friends sister doing hair and make up at no cost. It just seams that the food and drink and hall decorations are going to be the expensive bit.

Although i do like setting ourselves a limit on how much we a prepared to spend and looking on goolge and ebay to find it cheaper?!

Sorry about the rant ... but thanks for the tips! x

Are there cheaper options you could go for with the food? like having one less course or slightly cheaper drinks?

You could make your own invites, place cards, etc, as if you did these cheaply, that will help with costs elsewhere with your wedding.
