Born naughty

Anyone watching? Be interesting to see which ones get diagnosed. Tell you what though, my parents would never have allowed me to speak to them like that!

Once you got into the habit of making sure everything you asked them to do needed to be framed as a choice of options they could take it wasn't too bad...assembly time/mass was often a little fraught!

I can't bring myself to watch. it's one of the things i've NOT missed about being in school whilst i'm ill. we have a LOT of ESBD children and i can cope at work, when it's because of their condition, but i HATE when people use the condition as an excuse for naughtiness. children who have diagnosed behavioural problems do struggle, but sometimes, the do CHOOSE to be naughty, thinking they'll get away with it because of their condition. and a lot of people allow them to excuse themselves that way and it frustrates the life out of me!

the other thing that bugs me, is the fact that in school we aren't allowed to discipline all naughtiness in the way we normally would if the child has a diagnosed condition and it worries me because we're not preparing them for life after school. i had a 10 year old boy without behaviour issues call me a $lag. he was suspended. i had a child WITH behaviour issues call me a (un+. he had to apologise. if those same two children grow up and do that in the work place, they will be treated equally- no special treatment. or worse still if they grow up and get in trouble with the law....... we're not preparing them and it kills me Smiley sad

ESBD? I agree actually, I know they have a diagnosed condition but they still need to understand consequences. You could tell in the programme last night immediately that one had problems (she was diagnosed with a type of autism, PDA as mentioned above) and that the other was clearly a parenting issue. Such a shame now that parents would rather have their child labeled with a problem that look at their own behaviour

    Emotion Social Behavioural Difficulties

I thought it was an interesting program. I felt sorry for that woman whose Mum basically felt that she wasn't parenting the right way. I thought it was a tad harsh.

This. People need to be prepared for the real world and allowances will not always be made for them.

I have to admit i had to walk away from a situation at lunch one day when senior management were letting a boy with ADHD essentially get way with kicking another child in the head........... he got a lunch detention with the head. anyone else would have been suspended.

ADHD isn't an excuse for violence to me, but senior management had been warned by county that this kid had to be treated differently (we're his 4th school! :/ in 2 years!)

I a caught this yesterday evening.

Was kinda disturbed by the whole programme if i'm honest. I know they were trying to help these families, but surely telling your kid that they are so naughty a TV crew is coming to check them out seems like an odd choice to make if i'm honest. Who does that? I don't get why people go on Embarrassing bodies but at least they have a choice in the matter. Neither of these children had a choice. They were on national telly being told how terrible they are.

Anyway, i agree that children with emotional problems have a very difficult start to life, but going easy on them may make it worse when they are grown ups. At the very least it will be confusing!

The whole thing made me very sad for the children tbh...
