Bounced Cheques

yeah_whatever, 27 July, 2009 at 16:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

Hi just asking some advise on behalf of my husband. He works for a plant engineer firm as a salesman and on the 11th July he sold a ride-on lawnmower to a customer. Today the bank they lodge with has phoned the main office saying that the cheque has bounced as you can imagine its for a large amount, my husband is beside himself with worry when the ride-on was collected the person who picked it up could'nt give my h an address he was just lifting it h has a mobile number for the customer which is now turned off so has no way of contact now. I have reassured him its not his fault the business has no way of checking that business cheques will clear i know where i work we have to phone them through but they dont have this so was just wondering if this is all his fault or is his work partly to blame for not having any method to check that cheques will clear...they take cheques everyday for large sum's of money so i think they should have something available??

Thanks

I guess it depends on the Company policy regarding details needed before handing over goods.

Surely the Company have to have an address when someone purchases an expensive item. I work in a consultancy firm but we won't issue any details without an address, a mobile number isn't good enough.

Hmm yes your right i don'thave all the details but he did say the customer has been before unless he has given a false address. He had said the bank indicated that it was a false account so to speak so i assume the address they have is also fake the place he works is family run only have 2 stores so not sure of policies if they have any. The customer left this mobile number and my husband had phoned him to sort out a pick up so up until now it had worked but now he has his goods for free he's happy husband didnt suspect anything untoward. I feel so awful for my husband i just hope that all blame doesn't fall on him and that the business takes some too.
