I've never been to New York but I've always fancied it, and over Christmas will be awesome! Very jealous indeed. You need to get Tray1980 on this thread, she has been to New York loads and bet she can recommend a lot of things to do and see.

-Highline- highly recommended for a romantic walk in the evening, very impressive concept, too.

-Central Park (you could also get a horse and carriage).

-Shake Shack- prepare to queue up for 45mins to get one of these burgers!

    -Cheesecake at Junior J's.

    -Bagels- numerous places!

    -MOMA- good few hours required.

-Broadway- I saw Memphis in June and it was very good.

Personally, I love the SoHo area of New York as it has a great vibe! There are lots of touristy type things to do too i.e. Statue of liberty, Empire State Building, M&M world.

    You'll love it!

A ride in a pedicab around Central Park - yes the horse and carriage are v.romantic but some of the treatment of the animals is disgusting

    The harbour lights cruise http://www.circleline42.com/new-york-cruises/browse.aspx?type=&groupid=1

For your "special" (read expensive but utterly gorgeous) meal http://smithandwollensky.com/

Don't get a cab everywhere - the subway is perfectly safe and so so so much cheaper

Top of the rock - so much better than the Empire State Building http://www.topoftherocknyc.com/

Bronx Zoo - the zoo in Madagascar (cartoon) might say Central Park, but its more based on Bronx Zoo http://www.bronxzoo.com/

I'll take a look at our lists (as we go every year) and I'll post some more when I think of them

I love New York, it's amazing. Things I would suggest are:

    - If you like shopping, Woodbury Common is a must - it's a huge outlet village. It's just outside New York, you can get a coach from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

    - Going up the Empire State Building at night.

    - Have a drink in the Marriott Hotel bar in Time Square, it's a revolving bar and the views are amazing

    - Go to a Victoria Secret shop, lovely underwear

    Hi!
Thank you! We are staying in the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. I can't wait!!
Well obviously it will be a pretty romantically themed holiday but normally I love city holidays as I enjoy shopping, sight seeing, seeing the real side of the city. OH loves good food and I love anything sweet!

Any help would be fab thank you!

Contact them a month or so before you go via the website and tell them you are going for your honeymoon - they might give you a room upgrade (Times Sq View) and some extra freebies

That's ok, I know how hard it can be to get decent travel advice. From experience, using Google doesn't always pull up the most concise information, and what better way than to speak to somebody that goes every year. Tray you lucky so and so ?

I buy a weekly subway card when I'm out there for about $27 for unlimited travel

I also have a pre-pay $ card for when I go from https://www.fairfx.com/ref/isjrh and they waive the set up fee if you load with more than $50 in your first top up. You use it like a normal credit card, but you don't get stung for stupid fees + you can top up by text or on the web and its safer than using your normal credit card when abroad as if it gets cloned, you can only lose whats already on the card, and not stupid amounts + fees and all the rest of it

    Hi,

Hope you don't mind me asking but was it super-expensive? We're considering New York as one of our options for a Christmas Honeymoon next year.

    Thanks and congrats!!

Rooftop bar (although it will be freezing ?) I'd recommend Press Lounge Bar at Ink48 hotel.

AMAZING fondue place - cheese or chocolate - go to the Bourgeois Pig in the East Village

Gyu Kaku is a great Japanese bbq place

Go for brunch somewhere! Lots of places do unlimited cocktails with brunch for about $25.

    I am very jealous

    Hi thanks for your reply!

I will take a look at the food court and the top of the rock is on my list.

I have heard of the Big Apple Greeters and I wanted to apply. When I looked on the website it said you needed a US landline number and I obviously don't have one of those. I don't know if I could give the hotels phone number.

    I can't wait!

    Hi MeggieMoo!

We have booked with Kuoni so could of possibly got it cheaper than we have but with it being honeymoon we wanted it all sorting by a great company who will look after us if anything goes wrong. (they won awards regarding customer care in Volcanic Ash cloud and last years snow) with us travelling over Christmas and New Year weather could be a problem for us!

We also have gone for a hotel smack bang in the middle of Times Square so that won't make it really cheap. We normally book everything ourselves.

For seven nights we have got flights and hotels for around £3000

Hope this helps. Let me know if you want to know anything else.
