Bouquet trial *flash*

*Marmite*, 23 June, 2011 at 12:05 Posted on Planning 0 16

I'm going to be doing all the flowers for my wedding myself, so decided I should probably do a few trial runs before the day.

On the day I would like either Amnesia, Cool Water or Ocean Song roses (lilac coloured), but can't justify paying out for those just for a practice! I've also got some gorgeous floral print fabric from Liberty that I'm going to use to tie the bouquet with. What do you think? I think I need a few more flowers, but not too many as I want to keep it quite natural and loose.

So you can see how they go together, here is my dress and venue..

I'm not sure those roses are the best option for a "natural and loose" bouquet. I think they would look better in tighter formations. Do you have any more open roses, to add a bit of blowsiness?

WSS. I think wild/country looking flowers (I know nothing about flowers!) would lend themselves better to that sort of look.

I think I maybe need to use less roses and more other flowers. I'd like to have eryngium (purple thistles) in the bouquet as well. I'd need to buy the roses a few days before to let them open properly (these were cheap ones from M&S - that bouquet only cost me £4 to make!)

Well done for your first attempt - a couple of points to note are that your roses need de-thorning otherwise they will snag on your dress and they need to be tied a little higher up the stem with the stems cut to the same length. Your roses would need to be conditioned a little bit longer too to avoid the heads bowing but nice bouquet - like the colours and it would look good with thistle.

I think you are right that you need less roses and more other flowers, I think thistles would look lovely! I had amnesia roses for my bouquey, but only 5 and then a selection of other flowers for a more wild/country look

I think more more more flowers, and I'm not sure about the roses. I think the Green:Blue/White ratio is a bit high (i.e. too much foliage) but don't know if that's just my personal preference.

Dora - thanks! It's Mon Cheri Jolie. Naboo - I love amnesia roses - such an unusual colour. I think I'd like amnesia roses, thistles, purple freesia and some pinky/purpley statice. It's a good excuse for buying some flowers!

I got loads od comments on the roses, they are so beautiful and look kind of aged but in a good way! I love thistles in bouquets Im not great at flowers so not ssure what your others are, my flower lady blogged about our flowers and listed what they were, I will; dig out the link if that helps!

Oooh that's so exciting - I hadn't come across anyone else with the same venue! Did you see the wedding there that was on Rock My Wedding the other week? It was nice to see it all styled up and everything. How is your planing going?

Naboo - I've just been having a nosey and your flowers were absolutely gorgeous - love the colours and the arrangements. Thank you for sharing that - very useful.

Sherrie - Thank you for the picture. I think I want my bouquet to be more purple (couldn't justify buying more expensive lilac roses just for a play aroung though), but that is a lovely picure and very useful with the thistles and freesia.

Nor have I, but yep I saw the RMW one which looked very very cool (I can't possibly live up to that!)

I've got less than 6 weeks to go but still loads to sort out. We only started wedding planning in February though so I'm getting used to having lots to sort out in very little time!
